The Goose Creek Memo-
rial soccer team will be tak-
ing its show on the road this
week.
The Patriots will travel to
Fort Bend Bush on Friday to
take on the Bush Broncos at
7 p.m. in a Class 5A Region
3 Area Round Playoff game.
Should GCM win, it will be
the farthest the soccer team
has ever progressed in the
playoffs.
The District 22-5A champi-
on Patriots sport a record of
15-0-7, and advanced to the
area round by virtue of a 3-0
shutout of Crosby last Thurs-
day night in Baytown.
That match was tied 0-0
at halftime, before GCM ex-
ploded for three goals — all
by senior Mitchell Medrano
— in the second half. Mean-
while, the defense held Cros-
by scoreless.
Medrano scored two goals
on headers and converted a
comer kick to account for the
three goals.
Fort Bend Bush advanced
to Friday’s match by defeat-
ing Lamar Consolidated 3-0
in its playoff opener.
The winner of Friday
night’s match will take on the
winner of Richmond Foster
vs. C.E. King.
