No opposition: City votes to cancel Nov. 4 council election
There will be no City Council Nov. 4 gener-
al election in Baytown.
After the last challenger for District 6 offi-
cially withdrew his name from the race, the
Baytown City Clerk’s Office can cancel the
election.
She got approval to do so after Baytown
City Council voted on the matter Thursday.
City Clerk Leticia Brysch has never can-
celed an election during her nearly six years in
the position. That’s because there has always
been other items on the ballot for residents to
vote on, even when incumbents were unop-
posed in their district races.
In this case, Councilmen Terry Sain in Dis-
trict 4, Robert Hoskins in District 5 and David
McCartney in District 6 are the incumbents.
No one filed as a challenger against Sain
and Hoskins, and two candidates in District
6 - Dell Cox and Michael Jones - withdrew
their names.
Council on Thursday also officially declared
the unopposed councilmen elected to office.
