Don M. Hullum, veteran
councilman from District 3,
vacated his council seat this
year to bid for the mayor job.
In the run-off race with the in-
cumbent mayor Hullum re-
ceived 1,950 votes, compared
to Walker's 2,807 Mayor Walk-
er was the second highest vote
gatherer in the race. He won in
all precincts except Precinct
103, defeating Hullum by a
total of 857 votes.
Charley Walker took eight
boxes, losing to Evans in Pre-
cincts 102, 103 and 248.
Lander took six precincts,
losing to Simon in five other
boxes. Lander's votes totaled
2,495, compared to Simon's
2,123.
Dr. McWilliams garnered
2,561 votes to win the District 6

Wednesday, “I am extremely
grateful to the people of Bay-
town for what I consider to be a
vote of confidence not in me as A
a person but in the potential of
our city."
He added, “So many people
have worked so hard and long
through this campaign and I my Summers and Jimmy Sum'
would like to thank them all.
“These four years have been
most enjoyable — a bit hectic
at times — but enjoyable and
I’m looking forward to doing
more and hope to be able to
continue many of the projects
that have been initiated in re-
cent months.”

years, Mrs. Summers died
Tuesday in Houston. She was
the widow of John Dawson
Summers. She was a member
of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include three
daughters, Miss Louise Sum-
mers and Mrs. J. F. McMillian
of Houston and Mrs. A. J.
Busch of Baytown; a son, J.
Frank Summers of Houston;
two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Schro-
der of Athens, Ga., and Mrs. H.
Millican of Tucker, Ga.; Motors
seven grandchildren, Mias Ca-
rolyn Busch of Austin, A. J.
