Constance
Joyce Bartels
Austin
Constance Joyce Bartels
Austin, 85, of Baytown,
passed away peaceful-
ly at her home Monday,
March 9, 2015. Joyce was
bom April 3, 1929 in Fort
Worth, Texas and was
raised in Tyler, Texas.
Joyce graduated from
John Tyler High School
in May 1946 and married
the love of her life, Frank
Austin, on August 29th of
the same year..
The Austins had four
children, and moved quite
a bit for work before set-

Joyce was a loving wife
and homemaker who spent
almost 70 years caring for
her children, grandchil-
dren, and even her most
recent great grandchild.
When she wasn’t caring
for children and her home,
Mrs. Austin enjoyed gar-
dening, sewing, talk show-
programs, and traveling.
In her later years Mrs.
Austin found joy in man-
icures, weekly trips to
the salon, traveling to her
family lake house in Can-
yon Lake to see the deer,
attending parties with her
daughter's Girl’s Night
Out group, and fussing
Over the puppy dogs in her
home.
Joyce was preceded in
death by her husband of
67 years, Frank M. Austin,
parents, Louis and Geor-
gia Bartels, siblings Sarah
Mitchell, Louis Bartels Jr.,
Ruth Mitchell, and Barbra
Corbett.

topher Thompson, Kody
Austin, Gary 'Corbett,
Klein Lander, Billy Holt,
and Randy Smesny. Hon-
orary' pallbearers are SGT
Aaron Austin and SPC

The family would like
to give special thanks
to Mrs. Austin’s friend
and companion, Tearsa
Smesney, for all of her
wonderful love and care
for Mrs. Austin right up
until the moment of her
passing. Mrs. Austin en-
joyed lunch dates and Dr.
Phil with Tearsa, but her
favorite was listening to
Tearsa sing along to old
-country classics like Pat-
sy Cline’s “Walking After
Midnight”, for which they
shared the same curiosity
over why Mrs. Cline was
doing something as dan-
gerous as walking around
late at night.
Thanks would also like
to be extended to San Ja-
cinto Methodist Hospital,
San Jacinto Methodist
Skilled Nursing, Faith
Community Hospice, and
caregivers Jessica Kelly,
Nanette Bernard, Norma
Garcia, and Betty Hadnott
for their care of Mrs. Aus-
tin in her last few years on
this earth.
In lieu of other remem-
brances, the family asks
that donations be made
to the Tyler Rose Garden
in Mrs. Austin’s name.

in Plum, Texas to Edward
and Carrie Zaskoda Woti-
pka.
Edgar grew up in a very
large family with four
brothers and three sisters
when times were very
hard. The entire family
worked many jobs to help
make ends meet. Later,
the family lived in the
Willow Springs-Fayette-
viile area. As a youth,
Edgar loved to hunt squir-
rels, rabbits, etc. with his
brothers. Sundays were
spent in the woods or
mjn^acth
: He was cafredSinto the
U.S. Army at agy 18 and
served in Okinawa and
Saipan, which was then
known as Occupied Ja-
pan. Upon Edgar’s dis-
charge, the Wotipka fam-
ily moved to Baytown.
In August 1947, Edgar
went to a dance in Crosby
where he met his future
wife, Evelyn. They were
married on October 16,
1949 at the Czech Mora-
vian Church in Crosby.
Edgar and Evelyn resid-
ed in the Baytown-High-
lands area for 65 years,
where they raised two
children, Johnny and
Cynthia. Edgar worked at
W'i Ikenfeld’s Fumiture in
Baytown and then Hum-
ble Oil & Refining where
he retired in 1983 after 31
years of service.
Edgar was an avid
fisherman, shrimper and
loved boating out in
waters along the Hous-
ton-Galveston area. Ed-
gar -and Evelyn shared
a passion for deer hunt-
ing, which brought them
to Cat Spring, Texas, an
area that they thoroughly
enjoyed. They moved to
Cat Spring-in 1983 and
remained there for 7 years
before returning to High-
lands.
Edgar and Evelyn also
loved to dance together
with the waltz being their
favorite. They also en-
joyed dancing polkas at
country dance halls, fes-
tivals and celebrations.
Edgar once said that he
couldn’t dance until he
met Evelyn.
Several years ago, Ed-
gar began reading a lot
of books, with Westerns
being his favorite. In May
2013, Edgar remarked to
Evelyn that he never had
a Bible. She offered hers,
but he wanted to get his
own and he began reading
the Bible in its entirety.
He completed that task
in January 2015 at which
time he asked, "What am
1 supposed to do now?”
Evelyn said, "Start all
over again.", which he
did, ending up through
Exodus 11.
