BIBLE VERSE
Seek the Lord while he
may be found, call upon
him while he is near; let
the wicked forsake their
way, and the unrighteous
their thoughts; let them
return to the Lord, that he
may have mercy on them,
and to our God, for he
will abundantly pardon.

Mont Belvieu to
vote on new library
BY MARK FLEMING
mark.fleming@baytownsun.com
MONT BELVIEU - Mont
Belvieu voters will vote on
a possible new library in
the May election, after City
Council approved holding the
bond vote at its meeting Mon-
day night.
The ballot item would al-
low the city to finance up to
$2 million to participate in
building a library jointly with
Chambers County and the
friends of the library orga-
nization. The county library
serving the Mont Belvieu
area currently is located in the
courthouse annex.
It has not been determined
where the new building would
be located. Preliminary plans
would include the county con-
tributing about $1.2 million
for the construction of the’ li-
brary and operating it, and the
friends of the library contrib-
uting about $500,000.
The vote to hold the bond
election passed 3-1, with
Mike Pomykal casting a neg-
ative vote and Joey McWil-
liams not present.
In an executive session at
the end of the public meeting,
the council voted to terminate
-City Engineer Dan Williams
with a vote of 4-0. City Ad-
ministrator Bry an Easum said
the reason for the decision
was “lack of confidence ” but
declined further comment.
He said the search for a
new city engineer would be-
gin immediately. While the
city engineer works closely
with the city planner, he said
this change would not have an
impact of the search for a new
city planner. Bill Cobabe, who
held the city planner job, left
recently to take other employ-
ment.
The council also approved
the site plan for a new Enter-
prise Products Administration
Building on Eagle Drive next
to the city park, across Eagle
Drive from the Thrif Tee food
store.
According to plans shown
to the council, the two-story,
70,000 square-foot building
would have a concrete, brick
and glass exterior and would
meet city landscaping require-
ments. A wrought-iron fence
with .brick columns would
surround it. There will be a
controlled-access pedestrian'
gate directly to the park to
encourage employees to use
the park.
’ A onc-stoiy, 14,000
square-foot training build-
ing of similar appearance
also would be built on the
property. Vehicle access is
planned to be from the park
entry road to reduce impact
on Eagle Drive.
The council also approved
permits for several oil wells
and a pipeline all located
in industrial areas, and the
purchase of a new Tahoe for
the fire department,
