Entran de nuevo en actividad las
fuerzas viiiistas en Chihuahua
Saiazar tomó ia ofensiva en la región de Casas Grandes en
tanto que Villa marchó hace dos semanas a Durango
oara iniciar su campaña de "Sur a Norte" según dijo

EL PASO Texas Marzo 8.—Los
informes que se han obtenido en las
últimas veinticuatro horas respecto de
los villistas. son en lo absoluto distin
tos de los que por espacio de la se
mana pasada estuvieron recibiéndose
en esta ciudad y en toda la frontera.
Cuando ya casi todo mundo confiaba
aquí en que realmente había desapa
recido todo peSigro de parte de los
villistas.' llegan noticias de que los
rebeldes han entrado de nuevo en ac
tividad y que ahora operan en una zo
na muy extensa puesto que abarca
desde los puntos próximos 'a la fron
tera hasta el Estado de Durango.
Desde que el general José Mur
guia comandante militar de la línea
fronteriza salió de la vecina plaza
con su "reg.miento de la muerte"
| con rumbo a Casas Grandes ocupan
do Palomas y otros juntos de la fron
te ra que estuvieron en posesión de
| las fuerzas 'de Salazar la actividad
I üe ios rebeldes había desaparecido
! por completo v no se habían vuelto
a recibir noticias respecto a Salazar
' Ochoa. Tamcz y otros jefes de quie
nes se tenía como seguro el mes pasa
do que avanzaban sobre Ciudad Juá
"rez para -atacar dicha plaza.
Después se tuvieron informes de
que las fuerzas de! gobierno de fac
to enviadas a Chihuahua del Estado
de Sonora habían ocupado junto con
las de MurgUía los principales puntos
de la región de Casas Grar/des y que
ios viilistas habían sido obligados a
marchar hacia los puntos más avan
zados que tuvieron las fuerzas ame
ricanas durante el tiempo que perma
necieron ocupando territorio del Es
.ado de Chihuahua.
Vinieron poco después las noticias
de la enfermedad de Francisco V illa
las que remataron con la "muerte"
del jefe rebelde. Todas estas noticias
empezaron por desanimar a los par
tidarios que Villa tiene en esta ciu
dad y en otros lugares de la fronte
ra los que acabaron por creer que
efectivamente había "que perder to
da esperanza." pues las noticias eran
confirmadas por los hechos. En ver
Idad. los villistas paercían que habían
■ desaparecido como por escotillón.
¡ pues ni atacaban a los carrancístas
I ni estos podían atacarlos porque no
(Ies encontraban por parte alguna.
No habían desaparecido sin embargo

prueban los acontecimientos de que
se ha tenido noüicia en las últimas
veinticuatro horas acontecimientos

tas estén tan fuertes como se les ha
; supuesto por lo menos indican cla
ramente que representan aun un sc
¡ rio peligro para la tranquilidad en
1 eí Estado de Chihuahua.
Con efecto las noticias recibidas
anoche daban cuenta de que los re
beldes. a las inmediatas órdenes de
José Inés Salazar habían atacado a
! ¡as fuerzas carrancístas que dejó de
! guarnición en Casas Grandes el ge
neral José Murguia comandante m¡
¡ litar de la frontera quien como opor
' tunamente se anunció regresó a C.
I Juárez con su "regimiento de la
muerte.'' Los informes recabados eu
¡ fuentes autorizadas decían que vi
j llistas y carrancístas estaban aún
: combatiendo en Casas Grandes > que.
j Murguia había mandado refuerzos en
vista de que le habían siüo pedidos
i con urgencia.
Al preguntarse a los funcionarios
militares de Ciudad Juárez acerca de
! los acontecimientos que se estuvie
ran desarrollando en Casas Grandes
manifestaron no tener informes exac
tos y expresaron su opinión de que
| en caso de que fuera cierto que la
plaza había sido atacada no había el
menor peligro de que cayera en poder
' de la gente de Salazar pues que la
guarnición no obstante de que eia
1 suficientemente fuerte para resistii
' cualquier ataque seria reforzada con
¡elementos de los mejores que se en
jcuentran en Ciudad Juárez.
I Como según se sabe aqui. el telé
grafo ha sido cortado enure Ciudad
Juárez y Casas Grandes tiénese la
creencia de que las fuerzas de Sala
j zar derrotaron a las tropas carrancis
! tas y que capturaron la población de
'Casas Grandes. A última hora se su
| po que el tren militar que con cua
' trocientos hombres salió ayer de Ciu
1 dad J uárez por la vía del Noroeste
había sido tiroteado cerca de la esta
ción Barreal por una avanzada sala
zarista formada por veinticinco hom
bres.
Por qué Villa se ¿.rigió al Estado
de Durango.
De Francisco Villa se obtuvieron
ayer noche importantes informes que
comprueban los que se habían recibi
do acerca de que. restablecido de
sus males se había cambiado
hacia el Estado de Durango. Se
gún los referidos informes recogidos
po.- los agentes "del gobierno fedcial
americano Francisco Villa con una
fuerza de caballería q'ae se hace as
j cender a mil doscientos hombres
• marchó hace dos semanas hacia el Es
ludo de Llarango atravesando por la

De acuerdo con las noticias llega
i das a la frontera ayer de la ciudad

GUANAJUATO Marzo G.—Hablan
do con uno de los gerentes de las
Compañías Mineras se ha podido sa
ber que tal vez dentro de unos cuan
tos días se reanuden algunos traba
jos mineros toda vez que han podido
obtenerse materiales para el benefi
cio moderno.
Se asegura que están para llegar
cuatro mil toneladas de cianuro que
se han obtenido por conducto de la
Secretaría de Relaciones.
Termina la epidemia de tifo.
Comunican de la Oficina del Re
gistro Civil que hace dos días no se
ha registrado en la ciudad de Guana
juato ñi un solo caso de tifo creyén
i dose con toda justicia que la cruel

tinúan desplegando gran actividad
los alemanes que residen en la ciu
dad de Chihuahua y otras poblaciones
del vecino Estado Según lo que re
firieron unos pasajeros llegados de
la capital chihuahuense los alema
nes que residen en dicha ciudad har.
obsequiado varios banquetes al gene
ral Francisco González comandante
militar de la plaza- al general Arnul
fo González gobernador del Estado
y a otros jefes y oficíales do! ejército
cai'rancista que se encuentran en
Chihuahua. Murguía no ha estado en
ningún banquete de los alemanes
pues aun cuando ha sido invitado de
honor a ellos al estar en Chihua
hua siempre ha expresado que ni»
puede asistir a ellos por impedírselo
las necesidades 'de la campaña y ha
nombrado para que lo represente a
cualquiera de los jefes que están bajo
sus órdenes.
No es esto lo importante sino que
en los frecuentes banquetes ofreci
dos por los alemanes a los jefes mi
atares carrancistas se han pronun
ciado discursos de carácter abierta
mente hostfil hacia los Estados Uni
dos y favorables para una alianza
de México con Alemania y el Japóu.
Según los informantes los súbdi
tos teutones que residen en la ciudad
de Chihuahua no pierden la oportuni
dad de demostrar su simpatía a los
jefes carrancistas y hacen cuanto
está de su parte para obligar o com
prometer a los referidos jefes a per
manecer de su laijo en caso de una
ruptura de relaciones entre Alema
nia y los Estados Unidos.
Se dice que entre los jefes princi
pales del carrancismo no hay gran
entusiasmo por una posible alianza
entre México y Alemania pero si lo
hay entre todos los jefes y oficiales
caí rancistas ¡os qtie desean esa alian

haber causado la muerte a un solda
do ame'ricano llamado Mitchell Rost.

en vista de que no hubo méritos pa
ra proceder en su contra según la
declaración del Fiscal Lic. Me La 110.
Flores después de cometer el homici
dio se entregó a la policía dando
cuenta del acto que había cometido
el cual quedó justificado pues el sol
dado americano trataba de atrope
llar la casa de Flores. No hubo quien
presentara acusación contra el autor
del homicidio quien como se deja di
cho. se persentó a la autoridad alegan
do que había dado muerte a un hom
bro en legítima defensa.
Los testigos abonaron la conducta
de Flores y uno de ellos Isaac Mora
refirió que el soldado Rost había
momentos 'antes de presentarse en el
lugar donde encontró la muerte esta
do en la casa del declarante preten
diendo atropellado.
Atendiendo a las disposiciones de
la jefatura del departamento militar
del Sur el regimiento de milicianos
de Florida concluyó los preparativos
para marchar al campamento donde
se procederá a su desmovilización.
Con la salida de dicho regimiento
anunciada para hoy se van los últi
mos milicianos que quedaban en esta
ciudad fronteriza en la que hubo
no hace aún mucho teimpo varios mi
les de guardias nacionales.
Las importaciones efectuadas ayer
por esta aduana de artículos proce
dentes de México consistieron en:
treinta y cinco carros de calamina;
tres carros de metal; un carro de co
bre; nueve carros de plomo; dos ca
rros de ixtle tres carros de pieles y
cueros y un carro de piloncillo.

—El Primer Jefe no vendrá a esta
capital sino hasta que hayan pasado
Jas elecciones y se haya conocido el
resultado de ellas. Mientras tanto se
dedicará a atender las invitaciones
que le han hecho varios gobernadores
por él impuestos para que visite las
capitales de los Estados que están
bajo su férula.
La próxima semana el Primer Jefe
se trasladará de G-iadalajara a la
ciudad do Morelia donde a toda pri
sa eslán haciéndose preparativos para
recibirlo oficialmente. El nuevo go
bernador de Michoacán Rentería Lu
viano invitó a Carranza a que visita
ra la capital del Estado v algunas
otras poblaciones v el primer Jefe
aceptó desde luego esa invitación
que le permite dar tiempo a que las
elecciones se verifiquen a efecto de
regresar a esta capital ya en calidad j
de Presidente constitucional de la
República.
La primera población de Michoa
cán que visitará el Primdr Jefe es La
Piedad donde están haciendo prepa
rativos para recibir a Carranza y a
su comitiva. El Presidente Munici
pal de dicha población fue a Guada
lajara a invitar a Carranza a que vi
sitara La Piedad cumpliendo con las
instrucciones que recibió del goberna
dor Rentería Luviano quien ha pedi
do a los habitantes de las poblaciones
que visite el Primer Jefe que contri
buyan para el lucimiento de los fes
tejos que se preparan.
Según se anunció hoy. el proximo
domingo hará su arribo a esta capital
el poeta español Salvador Rueda
quien está siendo objeto de calurosas
muestras de simpatía en todas l«:s
poblaciones que visita actualmente.
Antes "de veniv a México Salvador
Rueda se ¿ctendrá en la ciudad de
Guadalajara con objeto de hacer
una visita al Primer Jefe.
La Dirección General de Bellas
Artes prepara ya un escogido progra
ma que habrá de desarrollarse tan
pronto como haga su arribo a esta
ciudad el distinguido poeta. Entre
los números del referido programa se
cuenta una velada literario-musical
que habrá de tener efecto en el tea
tro Arbeu y una excursión a San
Juan Teotihuacán.
Por acuerdo expreso de la Primera
Jefatura todos los gastos que origi
ne el viaje de Salvador Rfueda a esta
capital serán erogados por cuenta de
la Secretaría de Instrucción Pública
y Bcilas Artes.
