The Mark Hanna of Texas.
At the Beal 1 ratification Monday
TÛgtlt one of the spo&kers referred
to Mr. J. F. Strickland of this city
m the Mark Hanna «f Texas. The
speaker paid Mr. Strickland a very
handsome compliment for the effi-
ciency with which he managed Jack
Keail's campaign and said that he
-was in favor of making: him chair-
man of the state executive commit-
tee. Mr. StrickJand may not have
sua much of the "Jong- i^reen" as lias
that our friend Mark but he is a
smooth compaign manager is a fact
which the Woo ten crowd were forced
to acknowledge. He ha* fully de-
monstrated his thorough fitness for
tbie kind of work. He is not. onjy a
good organizer but possesses splen-
did executive ability. His cam-
paign was thoroughly systematized
and his forces were perfectly organ-
ised.

Urges Legislature to Act.
As a result of the matter contain-
ed in the annual addreea of Presi-
dent K- A. DuBose of the Texas
Cotton Manufacturers' Association
that body has taken the initir.l step
in a movement to induce the state
legislature to establish a textile
school in this state. The address
was referred to a special committee
and this committee made the follow-
ing report thereon which was adopt-
ed:
We your committee to whom was
referred the president's very able
address respectfully recommend the
following resolutions. We have not
thought proper to go into the matter
fully preferring to leave details
to the wisdom of the legislature:
Whereas it is a rratter of supreme
importance to the people of Texas
that the young of our state shall
have the opportunity to fit them-
selves properly for the battle of life;
and
Whereas Texas is now on theeve
of a great Industrial awakening and
manufacturing enterprises are going
to be established In great numbers;
therefore be it
Resolved that we recommend that
the legislature make an appropria-
tion of a sufficient amount to put In
operation a textile school that is
commensurate with the need of our
great state; that a committee of
three be appointed to bring this
matter to the attention of the legis-
lature and use all proper means to
secure the appropriation.
