thing American farms lack.
Then what i* the answer?
Man power must be supplied.
Easy enough to assert, hut
far more difficult to accomplish!
For years now the farms of
this country have been gradu-
ally depleted of the lusty young
blood that shoifld have stayed
to enrich'them. The army has
added the cap sheaf by taking
hundreds of thousands more.
It is plain to to a blind man
that the places of these young
nten must he filled if our farms
are to be operated at thier full
capacity this year. But there1
are no available sources of
supply. Farmers now are of-
fering unheard-of wages just
to get help to gather the corn
of last year, much of which is
in danger of rotting in the
field* in some parts of the
country, and help is not to be
had. There is but one answer
—men must be drafted for
the farms.
We are told by Secretary of
Agriculture Wilson that the
country Is expected to produce
an even greater crop of all
staples this ysar than was pro-
duced last year. This demand
