meeting of the Alethean Study Club
at her home.

of the program on “City Federation.’’

the evening.

bers of the Mercedes Legion Auxi-
liary attended a dinner meeting of
the Weslaco Auxiliary, when the
local group was feted by the Weslaco
group, at the culmination of mem-
bership drive contest between the
two auxiliary.

Saturday night, before a capacity
crowd in the Alzafar Temple in San
Antonio,. Glen K. Schuepbach, Mc-
Allen, was formally installed as Po-
tentate of the Alzafar Temple.
The 36th annual installation cere-
mony of the ancient Arabic Order of
the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine
marks only the second time in its
history where a Valley resident has
held this highest office in the
Temple. Schuepbach was preceded
hy the late John T. Lomax of San
Benito in 1928.
Approximately 450 Valley Shriners
' and their wives were on hand to
% honor Schuepbach in the colorful,
VI ceremonies.
Earlier in the day, the Rio Grande
Valley Shrine Club hosted Potentate
Schuepbach and his family with an
afternoon coffee in the tapestry
room of the St. Anthony Hotel.
H. S. Norman, Santa Rosa, Presi-
dent of the Lower Rio Grande Val-
ley Shrine Club and Mrs. Norman
headed the receiving line at the
afternoon affair which was attended
hy several hundred guests.
A number of Valley Shriners and
their wives made the trip in the
special Missouri Pacific Railroad
cars reserved for the Shrine Club
members attendiing the installation.
On Thursday, February 1st, the
Alzafar Temple drum and bugle
corps and the Bedouin oriental band
will participate in the Brownsville
Charro Days parade. It is expected
that all of the Temple’s elected offi-
cers (all of Sari Antonio) will be on
hand. In addition to Potentate

hartz, ’Assistant Chief Rabban; Ray
HV Trimmer, High Priest and Pro-

lebrated his sixth birthday anniver-
sary Thursday afternoon at a party
given by his mother, Mrs. Roy E.
Bray. The time was spent in games
and later, the birthday cake, topped
with six candles, was cut and served
with the refreshments.
Guests included John Michel, Cin-
dy Winston, Peggy Adam, Lane At-
teberry, John and Eileen Marchant,
John Charles Yelverton, Bobby
Sutphen, Darius and Grady Herald,

newly elected Superintendent of the
Mercedes School System, and Mrs.
St. Clair were guests of honor at a
reception held at the high school ca-
feteria Monday night, when mem-
bers of the school faculty were a
tost group. Mrs. Lucile Parrish was
in charge of arrangements, assisted
by others.
In the receiving line for the two
hours were Mrs. Mildred Halcom,
Mrs. William O’Hair, Mrs. Ferguson
Wood, Mrs. S. M. Carrell, Rey de
la Cruz , Royce McCurdy, Curtis
Reagan, Miss Alma Whatley, Mrs.
Parrish, Mr. and Mrs. Walden
Haynes, who introduced the honor
guests.
Also in the house party were
E. Perry, Hugh Norris, Roger Jones,
L. R. Graham, Mrs. C. E. Blanken-
ship, Mrs. Rey de la Cruz, Miss Thel-
ma Cade, Miss Nary Lawton, Nrs.
R. B. Atteberry, Mrs. Emmett Korff,
Mrs. L. W. Bolin, Mrs. Jack Goodloe,
Miss Marie Watkins and Miss Dorin-
da Ward.
The table, covered with a white
handmade drawwork cloth, was cen-
tered with pink roses and lavender
iris. Two triple candelabra held pink
candles.
Mrs. George Morrison and Mrs.
Leah Hamilton were at the lavender
coffee service and Mrs. Curtis Rea-
gan and Mrs. Charles Burns served
cake.
Piano music was contributed by
Tom Clark, Mrs. Tommy Jones and
Muss Virginia Nylander.

sar Bazar of Mercedes, are the par-
ents of a daughter, born January 26.
Mrs. W. W. Holland of Weslaco,
was a medical patient.
Mrs. Domingo Flandez of Merce-
des, underwent major surgery, Jan-
uary 26.
Baby Hernandez of Weslaco, is an
incubator baby at the local hospital.
Miss D. A. Davis of Weslaco, un-
derwent minor surgery, January 25.
H. Aldridge of Weslaco, underwent
major surgery, January 26.
Mrs. S. D. McDaniel of Weslaco,
