Plans for the 1946 Ford, Mercury
and Lincoln car and truck production
and distribution program were dis-
cussed in Dearborn this week by
Ford Motor Co. executives, regional
and branch managers and assistants
and branch iplant superintendents.
The meetings opened Monday in the
Ford Rotunda with a talk by Mr. J.
R. Davis, director of sales and adver-
tising. Mr. Davis indicated that the
post war line of Ford, Mercury and
Lincoln automobiles would be great-
ly expanded to provide models and
body styles to cover every price field
from the lowest to the finest in style
and performance .in the automotive
industry. The meeting was high-
lighted Wednesday by a luncheon
address from Mr. Henry Ford II. Mr.
Fod spoke to the entire Ford super-
visory family of approximately 200
executives and department heads. He
covered the trend of the automotive
business for the past 10 years and
projected in detail the engineering,
manufacturing and distribution plans
of the company that eventually will
provide thousands of additional jobs.
He outlined the company’s proposed
150 million dollar expansion pro-
gram, designed to step up Ford’s
share in the automotive business.
Emphasizing, however, that the com-
pany still has a war job to do, Mr.
Ford explained that “many of our
war contracts have already been ter-
minated, and more of them will be
soon, because we were principally
engaged in manufacturing material
for the European Theater. As our
services become less and less nec-
essary to the direct war effort”, he
said, “We will complete the shift
from war work to mass assembly of
automobiles just as rapidly as gov-
ernment restrictions are removed.
We will do everything in our power
to shorten the transition period, and
ployment which would result from a
prolonged postponement of passen-
ger car production for civilian use.”
