and moving to Austin. .
Curtis began his associa-
tion with Baytown when he
was transferred to Houston
[by his company in 1942. He
lived in Houston and work-

to travel since retiring.

ried recently to Pam Serpe,
his manager for about a year-
and-a-half.
Said Pam, “My business
partner knew him in Chicago
so she and I went to his house
to talk with him about
management. He signed with
us. That same week, he asked
me for a date. I knew it was
bad business to get involved
with a client, but he insisted
He said, ‘You can’t let bust
ness stop it. What happens
happens.’ We’ve been together
every day since.”
Like Pam Serpe Evigan,
Maggi Pickens’ husband is her
only client. She was once a
mathematician who “dabbled
in investing.” Thirty years
ago, she married rodeo per-
former Slim Pickens. “I took
a look at his checkbook and
saw he never made records.
The check .stubs were blank. 1
said, ‘Hey, Buddy, you can’t
do this.’ I’ve been handling
everything since.
