lambers To Probe Land
Cost For Winnie Airport
By MURIEL SCOTT
ANAHUAC (Spl - Chambers
County Commissioners Court
agreed Monday1 to investigate
the cost of acquiring additional
land to improve the county air-
port at Winnie.
A final decision on whether to
develop the sod-runway airport
at Winnie will be made at the
Jan 24 court meeting.

The Winnie Airport Advisory
Committee, appointed last
month after several Winnie
citizens approached the court
convening the airport, urged
the court to develop the east
boundary of the airport as an in-
dustrial area.
Though the county would have
to buy 53 acres of adjacent land,
the committee's report said, east
side development would providi
closer proximity to Winnie and a
to the Texas Aeronautics Com'
mission for funds to develop the
Winnie airport. In October, the
court was notified that $50,000
would be available if the county
matches the grant.
Commissioners* have not
accepted nor rejected the offer,
but have 90 days to act.
County Judge Oscar F. Nelson
Jr. said, "From the standpoint
of the budget, there is no way we
can fund it unless we cut some-
direct access route to town. It thing or several things out of the
would also allow cheaper access
to water and electrical power

it out of revenue-sharing funds."
Nelson noted that to purchase
53 acres could cost about
$45,000.
