Jackson Miss. Feb. 25.—Gover-
nor Brewer today ordered an in-
gest igation of the lynching of Sam
Petty colored who was burned
j to death at Leland last night. Pet-
ty was accused of attempting to
|kill a policeman. Petty was tak-
en out of jail by a mob of about
three hundred. After the fire was
started he broke loose from the
|stake and fled with his clothing
blazing. He was shot recaptured
la^d thrown back into the flames.
