it was sent Dy toe people or tn<
Province of Alberta and the city ol
Lethbrldge but expressed bis re-
grets that It would be Impossible for
him to attend. He spoke of the
nearness of the presidential elec-
tion and said It would be only two
weeks after the congress and the
press of official duties at such a
time precluded the possibility of his
making a tour to western Canada.
He did not appear to consider the
old-time unwritten code that a
president should not leave Ameri-
can soli when in office as having
any bearing upon his decision. He
spoke of the delightful meeting ho
had recently with the Duke of Con-
rmught and expressed regret that he
could not have the pleasure ot
again meeting him at Lethbridge in
October when he understood the
duke would be in attendance upon
the congress as the representative of
Great Britain.
Secretary of Agriculture Wilson
I will at once make preparations for
the represenation of his depart-
ment and the matter of a $10000
appropriation for a federal exhibit
