Mr. J. M. Jett Passsrd Away ta Home
of His Daughter.
At l<» i>0 last night M r J M
Jett passed away at th♦» home of
| his daughter Mrs R S Hass on
West Henry street after a sick
ness of about four weeks Mr.
.Jett was s:; years old. The body
was taken to .leflferson this inor
ning where the funeral and Duri
al wiil take place. He was the
father of Mrs. R. S Hass and
R. H. Jett of this city. Owing
to the lateness of the hour when
the news reached this office and
the absence from the city of
both R. H. Jett and R. S. Hass.
a longer sketch of the deceased
could not be obtained but one
will be given in the Herald to
morrow.
Funeral services will be held
at the residence of R. S. Hass at
9:30 this morning after which
the remains will be taken to the
Katy depot and placed on the
train for Jefferson. The deceas-
ed was an ex-Confederate soldier
and the Veterans are invited to
attend the funeral
The family will have the sym
pa thy of their many friends in
the loss of this veteran and good
man.— Greenville Herald Aug. "J
The remains of Mr. Jett
reached Jefferson at L:.'* Thurs
day afternoon accompanied by
Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Hass and
Mr. R. H. Jett and burial took
place in the family lot in Oak-
wood Cemetery. Mr. J. M. Jett
was a citizen of Jefferson for
many years and is well remem-
bered by all old citizens.
The Clark A: Hoice Lumber Co.
have recently placed an order
with the Haldwin Locomotive
works for a new 08-ton locomo
tive to be used 011 the J A N. W.
Ry. between Jefferson and Lin-
den. Among railway engineers
tlio Haldwin engine is considered
the acme of perfection and this
will prove quite an addition to
the rolling stock of this pro-
gressive little road. Master
Mechanic Newcom informs us
that the new engine will arrive
in about sixty days.
Kent houses are very scarce
in the city. Wouldn't it be good
policy and a paying investment
for some of our capitalists to
build nice rent cottages on some
of the many vacant lots owned
by them and supply the increas-
ing demand? Such houses can
be rented as fast as they are
completed.
