Miss Eberstedt's Recital.
News reaches us from Sulphur
Springs tlmt the recital given by
the pupils of Miss Eva Eber-
stadt wan a grand success. It
is impossible to tell which one of
the many numbers was the best.
Everybody admired the self pos-
session and technique. It was a
recital of culture and refinement
The stage was beautiful and ar-
tistically arranged by a master
hand. Miss Eva Eberstadt is
very much beloved in her new
home.
She was presented by her pu-
pils with a lockett and chain.
There is only one wish in Sul-
phur Springs to have her back
again. She is an excellent tea-
cher and relined in all her under-
takings. We all rejoice in her
grand success.

Demonstration Items.
The present dry hot spell of
weather is demonstrating more
forcibly than words tho wisdom
of those farmers who have fol-
lowed the plan of farming as
taught by the Government Dem-
onstration Work and also by the
State through its Agricultural
Department in the deep and
thorough preparation of the soil
before planting and tho subse-
quent frequent shallow and
level cultivation of the crop.
The corn tiiat has been planted
and cultivated in this manner in
Cass and Marion counties where
1 have observed it for the past
two weoks is suffering very lit-
tle while that on adjacent lands
of same character where a dif-
ferent system has been pursued
is twisting badly and without
rain in a very few days will
make nothing. A slipshod farm-
er sometimes makes a fair crop
when the season and everything
is favorable. The good farmer
makes a reasonably good crop
every year in East Texas bo
cause he farms intelligently and
prepares for just such drouths
as we are now having.
