Warns the Voters Against Eleventh
Hour Reports
I have just road a petition tliat
Mr. Wheeler is having; circulated
in Bowie county which states
that he will carry Bowie county
in this senatorial contest. He is
having several copies circulated
and is paying &J..10 per day to
some of tin* parties wh ) are cii
culating them. 1 know that one
of these petitions has been circu
lated hy one of the claim agents
of the railroads.
We all know how easy it is to
get people to sign petitions and
scores of them Will sign a peti-
tion and never rend it. Some
who have signed this petition
have told me since they signed
it that they did not read it when
they signed it and that they did
not know what it contained and
stated that their names were
coming off.
I do not know how Mr. Wheel
or aims to use this petition but
1 am sure he will get it before
the voters just a day or two be-
fore the election. I hope that
the people will remember that
reports put out just on the eve
of an election when the oppos
ing candidate can not answer
them are many times unreli-
able and should have no influence
in an election. Reports of this
character coming just a few
hours before an election are
usually an indication of the eer
tain defeat of of the candidate
putting them out.

MARRIED.
Faviel-L&throp.
While we regret to loose our
young friend the genial "angel"
from her accustomed place along
the walks of the .1 implecute force
we nevertheless compliment her
upon the happy thought that sug
gested a 'combination' and a
union of hands and hearts to pro
pel a matrimonial bark to a
superb finish superior indeed
to the lonely course wended by
the average victim of "single-
blessedness." Fate was evi-
dently in its happiest mood when
it made this match so congenial
and suited in tastes. This is a
practical illustration of the wis-
dom of prolonged courtship;
for they have considered well
both the practical and blissful
side to matrimony and will nev-
er be hampered by the usual
brevities engendered by the lack
of congeniality and a knowledge
of the responsibilities and sa
cred vows thus invoked. The
poet has lauded the "sweet June
bride" but our.Iuly production
might claim all the merits and
tender distinction pronounced
over the famous June bride in
all her gorgeous array. We are
glad that in her recent matri-
monial engagement that we do
not entirely miss the genial
presence and happy laughter of
MetY Lathrop about her accus
tinned places for she drops in
occasionally with all her vim and
happy characteristics to make
us proud of tin* claim we held
u|H)ti her and the tokens of es
teem she deserves. The groom
is worthy of all the eneomium>
bestowed him and richly de-
serves the high prize he has won
in his matrimonial pursuit ami
