MR. AND MRS. WILBUR LE RAY PAYNE celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary on Dec. 20, with a
dinner. The decorations carried out the yuletime theme.
Outdoor games were played after the dinner. Mrs. Payne
wore a white dress accented with gold accessories.The
couple were married in Chenoa Illinois on Dec. 20,
1911, in the home of the bride’s father, John Streed,
by the Rev. Hoke, minister of the Presbyterian Church.
The Paynes have been Valley visitors for the past
three years.

The Bazar family held a
family Christmas dinner at
-the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd Hoel in Harlingen.
Those attending from
Mercedes included Mrs. Jim
Bazar and daughter, Janie,
and Mr. and Mrs. P. N.
Bazar and children, Raynelle
and “ Little Ceasar”. Also
Mr. and Mrs. George Irby
and children, Mike, Sammy,
Mindy and Tommy.
The house was decorated
in keeping with the Christ-
mas season. Traditional tur-
key and all the trimmings
were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hoel and
children, Jenny Lee and Bil-
lie, Corpus Christi; Mr. and
Mrs. Jim Bazar and son,
Dudley, San Juan; Mr. and
Mrs. Bob MeGee and child-

been visiting her mother,

Is Class Favorite
At Trinity U
Trinity University senior
Jane Alice Groves was elect-
ed earlier this week as
“class favorite” for the
1961-62 school year by
members of the senior class.
Jane Alice, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, S. Fergus
Groves of 734 Orange, Mer-
cedes, is a Christian ed-
ucation major at Trinity.
Miss Groves is president
of the Student Christian
Council and a member of
Scho-Lea, senior women’s
scholastic honorary. She is
a member of the University
A Cappella Choir, the Mad-
rigal Singers and of Spurs,
women’s social - service
club.
She is a 1958 graduate
of Brownsville High School.
Lt. Col. and Mrs. Travis
Scott and children, Suzan
and Tim, Colorado Springs,
Colo. , are visiting with Mrs.
Scott’s mother, Mrs. Mae
Irby, over the holidays.

First Baptist Church from

The Worship Service will
be at 7:00 p.m. The Train-

church will meet in the Fel-
