STUDY CLUB OPENS
YEAN WITH DINNER
The Alethean Study Club
started their year Monday
night with a dinner meeting
at the El Sombrero with the
president, Mrs. Woody Tiil-
lis, presiding. The mem-
bers answered roll call with
an account of their summer
activities.
The program chairman,
Mrs. Lloyd Heggen, made
comments about the pro-
grams for the year. The club
voted to again take part in
Christmas giving to the Tub-
erculosis Hospital in Har-
lingen.
Those attending the meet-
ing were Mesdames, Tom-
mye Acker, J« V. Adams,
J., O. Clark, W. R. Dressier,
Byron Jones, R, C. Jones,
Goldsby Goza, Ed. Perry,
J. L. Long, Heggen, Tullis,
H. L. German, Victor Brown
and E. L. Park.
BAPTIST WOMEN
STUDY MISSIONS
The Baptist Women's Mis-
sionary Union met at the
church Tuesday morning for
foreign mission study.
Mrs. Connie Reagen,
president, was in charge of
the program. She gave the
first chapter of the Mission
Study Book, “Frontiers of
Advance” by E. Luther
Copeland. The chapter titled
Science, People and Faith
discussed the remarkable
development in science tech-
nology culminating in the
space age, the population
explosion and the worldwide
sweep of secularistic move-
ment.
The meeting closed with a
prayer.

THE CORONATION OF HER MAJESTY, Queen Norma Sierra, was held Sunday evening
in Tiger Stadium. Miss Sierra was crowned by United States Senator Ralph Yarbrough.
Mr. Yarbrough is shown above as he placed the crown on the queen. She was sponsored
in the contest for Queen of Fiestas Patrias, by the Holy Name Society. Other members
of her court included the princess, Nelda Martinez; and three duchesses, Esmeralda
Ramos, Linda Gutierrez, Lucille Saenz. Master of Ceremonies for the coronation
was Rigoberto Salinas. A ball followed the coronation honoring the queen.
Mrs. Luisa Duncan flew
to New Orleans last Friday
to visit her son, Jim Dun-
can and his wife. Mr. Dun-
can is in medical school
there. Mrs. Duncan’s moth-
er, Mrs. J. Malcolm Brown,
is visiting her sister, Mrs.
Hayne Johnson in Corpus
Christi.___
Mir. and Mrs. H. D. Stuart
returned Monday from a
business and pleasure trip
through Illinois and Missou-
ri. On the way home they
visited with their son, Mr.
John Stuard, his wife and
family in Dallas.

A daughter, Ruth Ann, was
born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Lira of Houston on Septem-
ber 13. The Liras formerly
lived in Mercedes. They have
two other children, Robert
James, seven, and Rchard
Ernest, three years old. Ma-
ternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Jesus Rodri-
Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Rodri-
guez have returned home af-
ter spending three months
in Houston with their daugh-
ters and families, Mrs. Eva
Milstead, Mrs. Esther Gar-
za and Mrs. Hortensia Lira.
During this time Mrs. Rod-
riguez underwent major sur-
gery in St. Joseph’s hospital.
She is recovering satisfac-
torily now. They were ac-
companied home by Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Milstead.
Mrs’ C. O, Dale enter-
tained her sisters, Mrs. R,
E. Donaho and Mrs. H, F,
Gerdes, both of La Sara,
on Monday.

BRIDGE CLUB
Mrs. H. L. Erie enter-
tained her bridge club last
Saturday afternoon.

dron visited friends and re-
latives in Corpus Christi
last week. They were house

his parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Pable Servando Guerra, Sr.,
of Mission. The couple will
exchange vows Oct. 23 at
7:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in San Isi-
dro. Miss Pena graduated
from San Isidro High School
and the Mission Municipal
Hospital Nursing School. Mr.
Guerra is a Mission High
School and Pan American
College graduate. He re-
ceived his B. A. degree in
history and Spanish in 1963.
