to Mrs. Corina Villarreal,
wife of SP5 Reynaldo Villa-
rreal, USA, at U. S. Army
Tripler General Hospital,
Honolulu, Hawaii.
Sp5 Villarreal, who is
stationed at Schofield Bar-
racks, is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Simon Villarreal of
Mercedes, Texas.
Mrs. Villarreal is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
F.luterio Rodriguez of Mer-
cedes, T exas.
The baby, named Edmund
Daniel, is the sixth child for
the Villarreals who are resi-
ding at 1356 Kilekole Ave.,
Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Queen City No. 2, Pro-
ject No. Tex. R-57, is an
Urban Renewal Project
which is an undertaking un-
der State and local law with
Federal financial assistance
under Title I of the Housing
Act of 1949, as amended;
to acquire landin the project
area; to demolish or remove
buildings and improvements;
to install, construct or re-
construct streets, utilities,
parks, playgrounds, and
other project improvements;
to make land available for
development or re-develop-
ment by private enterprise
or public agencies as autho-
rized by law; and to carry
out plans for a program of
repair and rehabilitation of
buildings or other improve-
ments.
The Mercedes Urban Re-
newal Agency’s proposals
with respect to relocation
will be available for exami-
nation and discussion at the
hearing.
Any person or organiza-
tion desiring to be heard
will be afforded an oppor-
tunity to be heard and may
appear in person, by at-
torney, representative or
agent.

date for the Fiestas Patrias
Celebration during Septem-
ber 12 and 13, 1964, is Miss
Linda Gutierrez, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs, J. C. Gutier-
rez. Miss Gutierrez is a
member of the Sodality and
holds the office of Treasur-
er.
W. E. Perry’s Return
Home from Vacation
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Perry
returned recently from a
trip in which they visited
relatives.
In Houston they visited
Mrs. Perry’s sister and her
family, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy
Walker. In Jasper the Perrys
visited Mrs. Perry’s moth-
er, Mrs. Emma Martin, and
her sister, and her family,
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Clark.
Traveling on to Pineland
they visited Mrs. Perry’s
sister and brother and their
families, Mr. and Mrs. C.O.
Osborn and Mr. and Mrs.
Edison Martin.
In Burkeville Mr. and Mrs.
Perry toured the home of
world travellers and lec-
turers, Mr. and Mrs. John
C. Kelley, who conducted
them on a tour of their
home explaining and telling
stories about their memen-
tos from all over the world.
LOCAL BAPTIST
YOUTH HOST MELT
OF VALLEY GROUP
The Youth of the First
Baptist Church of Mercedes
were hosts to 286 Youth
Crusaders For Christ Sun-
day afternoon.
This group, which is com-
posed of the youth of the var-
ious churches of the Lower
Rio Grande Baptist Associa-
tion, meets monthly in a
Baptist church within the
area reaching from Merce-
des to Brownsville to Ray-
mondville.
The speaker for the oc-
casion was Merle Blado of
Harlingen, a senior minis-
terial student at East Texas
Baptist College in Marshall.
He is a former member of
this youth group and during
one of the meetings several
years ago dedicated his life
to the Gospel ministry.
Refreshments were ser-
ved by the youth of the local
Baptist Church under the di-
rection of Mr. and Mrs. T ra-
cey Metcalfe, sponsors.
Michael Allen, son of Ma-
jor and Mrs. M. E. Allen of
Washington D. C., left Fri-
day after a two week visit
with relatives in the Valley.
In Mercedes he visited his
grandmother, Mrs. Wallace
Allen. He also saw his aunt
and her family, Mr. and Mrs.
A. C. Fitzgerald of Harlin-
gen.
Legion Auxiliary
To Meet Monday
The American Legion
Auxiliary will meet Mon-
day at 7:00 p.m. in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Woody
Tullis. The meeting will be
a covered dish supper with
husbands invited as guests.
Following supper will be
the installation of newly
elected officers, with Mrs.
Andrew Champion of the
Donna unit installing.
LANGFORD’S HAVE
FAMILY VISITORS
Mr. and Mrs, Ben J.
Whitehurst of Ft. Worth were
recent visitors in the home,
of Mr. Whitehurst’s sister
and her family, Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Langford.
Also visiting in the Lang-
ford’s home recently were
Mrs. Langford’s cousins,
Miss Evelyn Cleveland and
Mrs. Grady Marllar, both
of Corinth, Miss. Since this
was their frist visit to the
Valley they did extensive
sightseeing with the Lang-
fords.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Jay
of Pleasanton, aunt and un-
cle of Mrs. A vie Teltschik,
are spending several days
with the Teltschiks. While
here they are sightseeing
in the Valley.
