Rejoice always, pray con-
stantly, give thanks in all
circumstances. ( I Thes-
salonians 5:16-18. RSV.)
■The Christian life is a
life of joy. We have some
trials and tests of course,
but God will not allow us to
be tempted beyond our cap-
acity to endure. This truth
has been experienced by
thousands of Christians
around the world.
After several earthquakes
took place in Chile, a group
of church people were found
safe, singing a humn in a
small room. Happiness and
gratitute were in their hearts
in spite of the fact that the
church building and parson-
age had' crumbled away.
Another group of Christ-
ians, while the earth below
their feet trembled, took hold
of one another’s hands in or-
.der to keep on standing and
sang “A Mighty Fortress
Is Our God.” People around
were in confusion and des-
pire. In spite of the catas-
trophe, the Christians* con-
fidence in God was unshak-
en.
Christians in southern
Chile thank God for saving
their lives despite danger.
He has put words of grat-
itude in their hearts and on
their lips.
Whoever they are and
wherever they live, Chris-
tians always have great rea-
son for rejoicing.
PRAYER: Our Father, we
ask Thy help in showing
others the joy of Christian
discipleship. In Thy wisdom,
guide us to challenge them
to follow Thy way. In Jes-
us’ name we pray. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
A joyful face and heart
are the Christian’s marks
of an abundant life in Christ.
