“COULD THIS BE YOU? Be free with frost-free” is on the window of the local Central
Power and Light Company office bringing attention to the June display of the office. It
has won for the local office, of which Glenn Jones is manager, first prizes in both
the district and company-wide refrigerator-freezer contests for the month. The display
shows a mannequin with her hairdryer trying to defrost an old refrigerator. Next to
this is a new frostless model. All local employees participated in creating the dis-
play Jones said; and he also gave recognition to the local Anthony’s and Western Auto
stores for furnishing material for the display.

dents hav occurred this
year, compared to 480 for
the same period in 1963.
The Public Safety Direc-
tor pointed out that nearly
half of the fatal accidents
that occur on rural high-
ways involved either running
off the roadway or headon
collision. To guard against
these most frequent types
of fatal mishaps, Garrison
offered these suggestions:
1. Be sure your equip-
ment—tires, steering gear,
brakes, lights, windshield
wipers, etc.—are in proper
working order at all times.
2. Be sure the driver is in
good physical and mental
condition whenever he takes
on the exacting job of driv-
ing a motor vehicle.
3. Always be on the alert
for unexpected actions of
other drivers and for other
hazards, such as slick pave-
ment, pedestrians, con-
structions areas, etc.
4. Reduce speed before
entering curves, not after,
when it may be too late to
retain control.
5. Avoid improper pas-
sing, one of the major fac-
tors involved in headon col-
lisions. This, includes such
things as passing with in-
sufficient clearance, and
passing in no-passing zones
such as on hills and curves.
6. Adjust speed to existing
conditions and circum-
stances, regardless of the
posted limits.
