Miss Daniels And Mr, Terry
Exchange Vows In Henderson
Miss Shirlean Daniels and
Ronnie Terry were united
in marriage Sunday, Nov.
22, at 9:00 a.m. The double
ring ceremony took place
in the home of the bride’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.
C. Daniels of Henderson.
The Rev. Vickers officiated
at the ceremonies.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Terry of Mercedes are the
oarents of the groom.
The home was decorated
with white chrysanthemums
and roses.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a
two piece white shantung
suit. She carried a bou-
quet of white chrysanthe-
mums and carnations.
Following the wedding a
reception was held. The cake
was topped with the tradi-
tional bride and groom and
wedding bells.
The couple are making
their home at the Tropicana
Apts, in Weslaco.
Mrs. Terry is a graduate
of North Texas State Col-
lege and is a teacher in
Mercedes Junior High
School.
Mr. Terry received his
Jr. Draftsman Certificate
from Del Mar Technical Col-
lege in Corpus Christiandis
employed at Borderland
Hardware in Mercedes.

ON TEACHING AIDS
The Parent - Teacher
League of Immanuel Luth-
eran Church met Nov. 19.
The meeting was called to
order by the president, Dave
Metzger. Pastor- Herzog
opened the meeting with a
prayer.
Mrs. Martin Bandemer,
secretary, read the minutes.
A report on the proceeds
from the Halloween Carni-
val pie sale was given by
Mrs. Ruby Dillon. A total
of $32.90 was given to the
Mercedes band.
An attendance count of
parents representing each
room was taken. The kinder-
garten room won the attend-
dance trophy.
Keith Loomans, principal,
was in charge of the pro-
gram. The topic, “Various
Teaching Methods’* was de-
monstrated.
The kindergarten class
gave a short skit demon-
stratng speech drills. The
lower grades were repre-
sented by the first grade
demonstrating their phone-
tics ability.
Mr. Loomans showed the
Speed-i-o scope and the
overhead projector, which
are mechanical teaching aids
used in teaching the upper
grades.
The meeting was adjourn-
ed by the group sauing “The
Lord’s Prayer’’ in unison.
Frefreshments were ser-
ved to the group by hos-
tesses of the month: Mrs.
Edgar Carswell, Mrs. Dan
Logan, and Mrs. George Er-
chinger.

Mrs. Robert H. Johnston
entertained her supper Club
Wednesday evening with a
Chinese dinner. Members
playing included Mr. and
Mrs. J. D. Vollmer, Mr.
and Mrs. Gilson Knapp, Mr.
and Mrs. Adrian Brower.
Mrs. Ralph Murdock was a
guest. High score was won
by Mrs. Johnston. Second
high and travelling prize
were won by Mrs. Murdoch.

“Interesting Facts About
Famous Composers’’ was
the program for members
of the Chansonnettes when
they met Saturday morning
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Don Warner. The program
was presented by Richard
Brown and Steve Hager.
Some of the composers were
Bach, Handel, Hayden, Mo-
zart, Beethoven, Tchaiv-
kovsky, Wagner, Schubert,
Chopin, and Anton Ruben-
stein. During the courses
of the program Angelica
Lopez played a two-part in-
vention by Bach; Mrs.
Drawe sang the Austrain
Hymn by Hayden; Connie Ed-
gemond sang a solo by Mo-
zart; a piano duet, “Melody
in F” by Anton Rubenstein
was played by Angelica Lop-
ez and Jean Atteberry. Also
excerpts from Beethoven’s
“Fifth Symphony” and the
“Surprise Symphony” by
Hayden were listened to by
members.

Mrs. Tommye Hernandez
was honored with a baby
shower, Nov. 22, at the home
of Mrs. Oscar Gorena. Oth-
er hostesses were the Mes-
dame Liborio Hinojosa,
Jaime Hinojosa, Ruben Hino-
josa, M. G. Hinojosa, Miguel
Cadena, Frank Williams,
Robert Rodriguez, Lydia Sa-
linas, Luz Rodriguez, J. S.
Martinez, and Mrs. Rey
Zuniga.
Each hostess wore cor-
sages of mums, and pre-
sented Mrs. Hernandez with
a corsage of mums holding
babies socks.
The table was centered
with a Thanksgiving floral
arrangment, which was later
presented to Mrs. Hernan-
dez by the hostesses.
Refreshments of fruitcake
topped with whipped cream,
nuts, and coffee were served
to the guests.
Approximately sixty
guests called during the
hours of three to six.

Engagement Told
Of Miss Rivera
Mr. and Mrs. Jose L. Ri-
vera announce the engage-
ment and approaching mar-
riage of their daughter, Yo-
landa, to John Wendall
Staten, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John S’ ten of Lake City,
Florida. The date for the
ceremonies has been set for
December 20, at Our Lady
of Mercy Church. Miss Ri-
vera attended Mercedes High
School and is employed at
Knapp Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Staten Is a graduate
of Columbia High School,
Lake City, Fla. and is an
assistant manager with Ro-
nald A. Green Insurance
Agency in Florida.

The Music Club held its
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Jack Schwarz, Thursday,
Nov. 19 at 4:00 P.M.

the program presented to the
club by Mrs. W. C. Ross,

Mrs. Bill Drawe, Jr., gave
a report on the Annual Dis-
trict Convention Meeting
held in Brownsville.
Pumpkin cake and coffee
were served to the seventeen
members.
Baptist Woman
Hold Luncheon
Members and teachers of
the Homemakers and Ruth
classes of the First Baptist
Church went to Luby’s Cafe-
teria in Harlingen for a so-
cial luncheon Nov. 18.
Mrs. T. G. Edwards is the
teacher for the Homemaker
class, and Mrs. Sallie Wil-
son teaches the Ruth class.
Wesleyan Guild
Meets In Retreat
Miss Peggy Rodebaugh
was in charge of the program
for Wesleyan Service Guild
which was held at the Queen
City Retreat on Thursday
evening, November 19. Her
presentation was of Remem-
brance: Veterans Day and
Thanksgiving, using the bio-
graphy of the late Private
Alvin C. York.
Mrs. Verne Wilson re-
ported on a speech by Mary
Ruth Nickel’s experiences
in Pakistan.
Mrs. Wilma Armstrong
presided at the business ses-
sion.
Mrs. Stella Herndon and
Mrs. Dewey Acker served
■ refreshments to thirteen la-
dies.
A recent visitor in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. P. G.
Lauer and family was Mrs.
Lauer’s brother, Fred Ull-
rich of Dover, Del. A mem-
ber of the United States Air
Force, A/3c Ullrich flew to
the Valley on a 72 hour leave.
He also visited with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ull-
rich and family of Elsa, and
a brother and family inRay-
mondville.
