Melvin Stecher and Nor-
man Horowitz are both New
Yorkers, but their joint ad-
ventures during the past
years have taken them far
afield, and down just about
as many musical roads as a
Steinway two-piano van can
travel. They will bring their
own Steinway Concert Grand
Pianos, instruments which
are specially matched for
tonal color.
Solidly grounded In the
classics, ardent and in-
tensive students of both their
instrument and its litera-
ture, Stecher and Horowitz
are youthfully open-minded!
and mindful of today’s taste.
Their pairing of virtuosity
and versatility is evident
in the stretch of their re-
pertoire, the scope of their
activities.
The Stecher and Horowitz
name first became familiar
to the public when the two
young men were featured
in an engagement, extended
and re-extended, at the Radio
City Music Hall. They gave
a total of 84 performances
in that famous hall where
the names of so many of
today’s most noted artists
first became household
words.
In 1959, under the auspi-
ces of the State Department,
Stecher and Horowitz ap-
peared as guest artists with
the Roger Wagner Chorale
in 19 countries of Central
and South America. Their
technique has been called
“stunning”, “colossal”,
The Mercedes Enterprise — Fogs 9
Mercedes, Texas, Thursday, November 26, 1964
projecting “irridescence”
|and “robust spirit”.
These popular young ar-
tists appeared in Corpus
Christi last season and were
so well received that there
wa3 a demand by music lov-
ers in that city for an im-
mediate return engage -
ment; therefore, their sche-
dule was arranged so that
they would return to Corpus
Christi this season, and ap-
pear in McAllen at the Civic
Center Auditorium on the
following night, Tuesday,
December 1, at 8 p.m.
