Gen. Horner Praises Quality
And Importance Of
GD/FW Work
Brig. Gen. Charles A. Horner, Commander of the Ninth
Air Force and U.S. Central Command Air Forces, com-
plimented GD/FW employees highly in his remarks at the
Bahrain F-16 delivery ceremony on March 22."With the sale of this airplane, you bring stability to a
very volatile part of the world that is also very important
to our nation," he said, referring to Bahrain's location in
the oil-rich Persian Gulf region.
"Because of the excellency of your work and the tremen-
dous capability you bring to your jobs, when you produce
equipment such as the F-16, you serve the United States and
our allies very well," he said. "You should be very proud
of what you do and how you do it."Turkish Ambassador (Continued from Front)
GDVPCP
Drive
Results
Membership in the General Dynamics Voluntary
Political Contribution Plan (GDVPCP) increased
from 700 employees to more than 1,600 during the
recent participation drive. The GDVPCP allows
eligible employees to effectively support congression-
al candidates who understand the need for a strong
defense.Charlie Edmonds
"There is a reproachment between East and West,
certainly," said Nuzhet Kandemir. "The risks of war
are disappearing, but we have to be cautious. Noth-
ing is done, in my view.
Kandemir, on a four-day tour of the Southwest,
called the Turkish F-16 program "one of the most
successful joint ventures we have carried out so far.
The program is the single-largest defense industrial
project ever initiated by Turkey with a foreign
country."
The Turkish Air Force has ordered 160 F-16 Fight-
ing Falcons, most of which are being built in that
country.
Kandemir suggested that additional F-16s might
be purchased, and said the Turkish government is
talking with the U.S. government about the possi-
bility of Turkey coproducing F-16s for countries that
do not now fly the aircraft.
February Suggesters
Of Month Honored
Martin James of Dept. 253-5 was
honored as the Suggester of the Month
among hourly employees in February. He
suggested that dollies for A-12 model test
stands be purchased from an outside source
rather than designed and manufactured by
the company. The estimated savings was
$26,633, and he received $3,994.95.
Charlie Edmonds of Dept. 073-0 was the
salaried honoree. He suggested a change in
the procedure for cutting aircraft tubing
reference designators. The estimated first-
year savings was $104,176, and he was
awarded $15,000.Martin James
