Employee's Wife Said 'Let's Go Get Them'
IAM Member Adopts Coworker's KidsDuring the Christmas season many of us help
the less fortunate by 'adopting' a family. This
past year, Wayne and Linda Jones have done
much more - they legally adopted three children.
Last year Wayne, a 13-year GD employee work-
ing in Dept. 036, went to visit one of his co-work-
ers in the hospital. When he and another mem-
ber of the International Association of Machinists'
community service committee went by to check
on the man's three children, they saw that they
were without supervision or food.
Wayne described what he found to his wife and
she said, "Let's go get them."
The man died two weeks later. By that time,
Wayne and Linda had decided to legally adopt
Jaime, now age 13,
James, 11, and
Vance, 7.
Wayne said he
didn't want the kids
to be split up,
because "all they
had was each
other."
Since that time
the Joneses and
their new kids have
meshed as a family.
The kids have taken
Wayne and Linda's
last name and refer
to them as Mom and
Dad. Wayne said

been especially sup-
portive. Along with

aunts and uncles, 'TIS THE SEASON - Lin

Things are settling down and the kids are
adjusting. Wayne proudly pointed out that Jaime
earned excellent grades on her last report card,
and James played on a peewee football all-star
team this fall.
There have been a few hardships, but they all
love each other and that gets them by, Wayne
said. They have many special times, like
Saturday mornings when they all pile on Wayne
and Linda's bed and talk.
"We didn't do that the first time we had kids,
so it's like we're getting a second chance too,"
Wayne said. - By Greg Hubbardda, Wayne, James, Vance and Jaime Jones (left to right) put
