Funeral services were conducted by
Rev. Claude Keeney, with impressive
song service. A wilderness of flowers,
silent tokens of love of her friends)
and loved one, covered the little
mound.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides
her parents, one brother, Kenneth
Perkins. Three half-brothers, Willie
Manship, Oswell and Alvin Perkins of
Barksdale. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Har-
ry Clark of Arizona, Mrs. Joel Craig
of Barksdale; also her grandparents
Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Whitley. The
Canyon extends tenderest sympathy to
the bereaved ones.
J, p. Cromeans of San Antonio is
visiting his sister, Mrs. Frank Casey
this week.
Mrs. Bessie Jernigan of San An-
tonio was the guest of Mrs. B. J.
Stewart Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kite left last
week for a visit with relatives at Spur
Mrs. O. C. Pope and Mrs. John
F. Pearson were Uvalde visitors Fri-
day.
Mrs. J. T. Brown and daughter, Miss
Noretta of San Antonio visited her
son, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown Sun-
day.
Mrs. Sid Bort and children are vis-
iting relatives in Rocksprings this
week.
W. D. Lacey, stationed with C. C.
" C. camp at Con Can spent the week-
end with his parents, Mr, and Mrs.

Miaa Athele Whitworth Awarded Blue
Ribbon Prise in H. E. Contest
Miss Athele Whitworth, a student of
the first year home economics class,
was awarded a blue ribbon at the
Homemaking Education Rally which
was held in San Angelo last week-
end. Athele won this prize in the
wash dress contest, which was spon-
sored for all class B schools of this
district.
Personal Mention
Miss Eloise McCoy spent Friday and
Saturday in San Antonio visiting in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. H.
Lohse.
Miss Evelyn Henry spent last week-
end in Martindale, visiting in the home
of Mr. and Mrs Bob Springfield.
Miss Helen Thurman spent Friday
in Kerrvillc.
Miss Julia Mae Johnson was a guest
in the home of Miss Mabel Hodges
of Junction last Friday and Saturday.
J. E. Tatum, Le Roy Whitworth,
John R. Banister, Janies Rudasill,
Preston Taylor, James Leo Greer,
Tom Henderson and Neal Elms at-
tended the State Contest at A. & M.
last Monday.
Jackie Farris visited in Del Rio last
week-end.
Miss Doris Ann Brown visited in
Sonora and San Angelo during the
holidays.
Tommy Burney entertained the
members of the first grade and a few
guests with a picnic at the fair
grounds Thursday afternoon.
Miss Norma Henderson visited in
Crystal City last week-end.
Earl Pope spent Sunday in Camp
Wood.
Burney Glenn spent Sunday in
Camp Wood.
Glen Varga spent Sunday in Del

and Sophia Carr, (Helen Dean), stir
up “Trouble in Paradise" by getting
up-* lottery to keep Jean Harmon (Sy-
bil Rudasill) in achool. The captain
of the football team, Phil Bradley (Nor-
man Fred) does not exactly approve
of the lottery nor does Daisy Morris,
the vamp (Elizabeth Taylor) and Fran-
cis Achcutt (Eunice Lockhart). And-
Irew “Snowball” Jackson (Alonzo Cow-
sert), "Fish” Salmon (Claude Winans)
and Miss Whedbee (Pauline North-
cutt) furnish some very amusing mo-
ments and so do Porter Hooks (Clyde
Winans) who has more money than
the other boys and Alice Hamilton
(Hope Merritt) who comes to attend
the annual prom. Aunt Mildred Moortu
(Claudine Winans) Faye's aunt manj
ages to straighten out some very tan-
gled affairs for the youngsters and the
situation ends in merriment for all con-
cerned.

DEBART LEE BOURLAND
Services were held in San Antonio
Tuesday afternoon for Dehart Lee
Bourland, 58, former state president
of the Travelers’ Protective associa-
tion, who died in Waco Monday. Rev
H. Bascont Watts conducted the rites.
Bourland, who had been in Waco
for only a short time, was a native of
Lewisburg, Ark., and had resided in
San Antonio for 35 years. Besides be^
ing a past president of the T. P. A.,
i he was a member of the United Com-
mercial Travelers and of the Elks and
belonged to the Laurel Heights Me-
thodist Church. He was a Spanish-
American War veteran. He formerly
was a salesman for the G. A. Duerler
Candy Company.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs.
Lillie G. .Bourland; a sister, Mrs. W.
T. Thrift, both of San Antonio; two
brothers, Claude Bourland of San An-
tonio and Gordon Bourland of Fort
Worth, and an uncle, Jack Gordon of
San Antonio.

The play entitled "Better than Gold”
given by high school students in Camp
Wood Monday night, was well attend
ed, despite the threatening weather—
All parts were exceptionally well ren-
dered, and very much enjoyed by the
large audience.
Mrs. Elizabeth McCauley of Uval-
de, distrist supervisor of W. P. A.
sewing rooms was a Camp Wood vis-
itor Tuesday.

She was met in San Antonio by Miss
Lizzie Dismukes, who accompanied her
on to Gonzales.
Mrs. Lee Hyde and children visit-
ed Lee Hyde in Kerrvillc Saturday.
Mr. Hyde is a patient at the Legion
Hospital there where he is receiving
medical treatment.

Seniors to Present “Trouble in
Paradise”
The 1936 graduating class will re-
sent the annual class play on the ev-
ening of May 8th at eight o’clock in
the high school auditorium.
The play which is enttiled “Trouble
in Paradise” is a three-act comedy, re-
presenting college life as it is today.
“Specs” John Martin (Everett Ep-
person) attempts to teach Wild Bill
Hanlou (Monte Earwood) some phy-

Hr. Bourland was a familiar figure
here for a number of years, and made
this city, celling candy in the horse
and buggy days, and his jolly manner
of approach and genuine friendliness
won for him a familiar nick-name that
stayed with him throughout this sec-
tion these many years, he being nam-
ed the “Candy Kid,” by friends here
around 30 years ago. His weight for
number of years ranged between j
340 and 360 pounds.
Mr. Bourland complained very lit-
tle, and went about his work always
smiling and making friends that mourn
with the family in his demise.
He was an own cousin of Miss Clan
dine Bourland, secretary American An-
gora Goat Breeders’ Association.
