Ifers "eight pillars of peace" upon
which American "peace and pros-
perity might rest.” ,
With all respect for the secre-
tary's earnestness, it must be said
that the most Important “pillar"
for the United States Is not found
among the eight.
The Interesting pillar IS: A pro-
tective force of airplanes and sub-
marines so great as to make any
attaek upon this country unthink-
able. When John L. Sullivan, liv-
ed, no one hit him.
Mr. Hull's suggestion of "fre-
quent international conferences is
admirable as regards conferences
among nations on the American
continent. Outside of America, the
fewer "conferences” the better, re-
me&bering Will Rogers’ statement
that Uncle Sam never lost a war,
or Aron a conference.
