STUDY IS BEGUN

Two govern nent-business cooper-
ative committees began studies
today to improve cotton markets
as part of ti e agriculture depart-
ment’s effort to decrease mount-
ing surpluses. /
Following a meeting of mat-
tress manufacturers w;ith an agri-
culture cotton committee headed
by Assistant Secretary of Agri-
culture Harry L. Brown, the
group decided to explore further
the marketing ideas thus far ad-
vanced, inducing Secretary Wal-
lace’s "two price system."
Lew Hahn, a member of the
National Retsil Dry Goods As-
aociation, heeds one eommittae
named to scaich out private en-
terprise for ntw cotton uses and
improved sales methods.
President Claudius- T. Murchi-
son of the Cotton Textile Insti-
tute is chairman of the other
committee which will study whe-
ther increased consumption of
cotton can
through government agencies, such
as the Works Progress Adminis-
tration, the army and the navy.
Brown said the meeting was
to attempt to expand cotton mar-
kets and not for the sole purpose
