If Snyder is To Retain Her Supremacy, The People

Central hnd is waiting: for the
road to present its proposition
in tangible form. The people
here realizo that we must have
this road to complete our calcu-
lations- We have already map-
ped out the yards for side tracks
and a union depot, and have fow months
made mental maps of a street
car system to meet all public
demands.
Snyder is laid out so that a
street car system is a necessity
for the comfort of the people,
and it is only a question of a few
moaths till such an enterprise
must begin to take form.
The coining of the f. C. and
the location of the union depot
will hasten the coming of street
cars and bring on other import-
ant concerns.
With street cars in operation
our residence districts would
spread out and till up, and the
sub urban additions now con-
sidcred far out wou'd then l*e
close enough in for residence
territory, and the population of
Snyder would be doubled in a

trie Light Company have re-
cently brought about a consolid-
ation of their interests, and out
of these lias come the Snyder
lire, Light & Power Company.
This company lias applied for
a charter with a capital of $20,-
000. The stock holders are all
local people and are fully identi-
fied witli this city and county.
The officers of the company
are:
E. W. Clark president, W, A.
Fuller treasurer, Arthur Yonge
secretary, and R. F. Brumback,
general manager.
It is the purpose to install a
meter system within 30 days,
and the lines will be extended as
fast as the business will justify.
The plant in all departments
will be put in first class condit-
ion and ready to serve the pub-
lic in lights and power all the
time, and furnish the best of ice
when the season opens.
This organization means for
Snyder, a better service than
we have ever had, and puts the
city on high ground, as to these
public utilities so that we may
feel assured of always getting
the very best of everything. It
is a forward step in civic ad-
vancement that the public will
appreciate and support.
Later on the light department
will be located at the ice plant
and fitted up with new and first
class machinery capable of meet-
ing all demands for ice, lights
and electric power.
Snyder helioves that the oil j delay to make a thorough test of
center of West Texas is right the oil proposition.
A. C. Wilmeth and W. L. dross
left Tuesday evening for Corsi-
cana and Powell to investigate
those active oil fields, and to
interview drillers and gain all
possible information to assist
here. There are abundant evi-
dences of an immense oil deposit
here and we have a citizenship
willing to hack up their judge-
As heretofore stated in these1
columns, a tentative company
was formed here a few weeks
ago and a plat of land was pur-
chased a short distance south of
town when1 there are out crop-
pings of oil sufficient to establish
the imlicf that there is oil under
the surface.
This plat of land has I icon cut
up into lots and about 400 of the
lots have been sold to Snyder
people. With this substantial
backing, the promoters of the
enterprise feel assured of suc-
cess, and on Tuesday of this
week they met and went into
permanent organization of the
Snyder Development. Company.
A. C. iWilmeth was chosen as
president, W. T. Thompson,
vice president, Geo. W. Brown,
secretary and L. D. Grantham
treasurer. There are eleven
stock holders in the company.
A charter for the new com-
pany has been drafted and for-
warded to Auaf-jn, and articles
of incorporation have been diily
filed and the new company will
proceed without unnecessary
the new company in an intelli
gent prosecution of their plans.
It is the purpose of the com-
pany to. employ competent men,
tp use the best of machinery and
to go 3,(MX) feet if necessary to
obtain oil or gas. Should they
fail to find either, they feel sure
of getting artesian water, and
that itself would he an everlaat
ing boon for Snyder, and would
solve the water works question
for all time to come. In any
event the men who have put their
means into the enterprise will
come out the winners by long
odds.
The new company is capitaliz-
ed for $5,000 fully paid in and
the tost will be made right
away.
This puts Snyder well up in
the list of progressive cities, and
with u proven "oil field here, all
things elseX'will soon be added.
Railroads will hurry to build in
here and all sorts of factories
and business concerns will seek
location here because of the fact
that our fuel supply will be un-
limited and our shipping faci-
lities will be all tint the busy
c immercial world could desire.
