of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. R.
McNiel.

Mr. and Mrs. H. R. McNiel an-
nounce the marriage of their daugh-
ter, Miss Emalee McNiel to William
A. Carruthers of Brooks Field, son
of Mrs. Bessie M. Pressley of Crystal
City. The nuptials were solemnized
Wednesday evening. Dec. 23, at 9
o’clock in the Brooks Field Chapel
by Chaplain Aubry C. Halsell.
Mrs. Carruthers, a graduate of
Crystal City High School, attended
Baylor University and is a graduate
of State Teachers College in San
Marcos, majoring in Art. She taught
in the Crystal City schools last year
and is now teaching in the Carrizo
Springs schools.
Following Mr. Carruthers gradua-
tion from Crystal City Hi,;h School
he was with the United States Engi-
neer War Department for 18 months,
but is now in the Air Corp^and sta-
tioned at Brooks Field.
Mr. and Mrs. Carruthers came to
Crystal City on Thursday following
their marriage on Wednesday and
spent the Christmas holidays here
with their parents. They returned to
San Antonio Tuesday evening to
spend the remainder of their vaca-
tion after which Mr. Carruthers re-
(tunred to his post on Thursday and
Mis. Carruthers will return during
the week end to take up her school
work at Carrizo Springs.

KING FISHER'S WIDOW
HAS 85th BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Sarah Fisher was compli-
mented with a coffee by her daugh-
ter, Mrs. F. F. Kellogg, at their home
in Carrizo Springs on Friday morn-
ing. the occasion being Mrs. Fisher’s
85th birthday anniversary.
Mrs. Fisher came to th's section
in the early 60s. Her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Jno. Vivian, moved from
Goliad in ox wagons when Mrs.
Fisher was five years old, settling
on the Pendencia Creek, 15 miles
west of Carrizo Springs. After a few
years the family moved to Eagle
Pass and back to the Pendencia
Creek where Mrs. Fisher recalls see-
ing the Indians come in on several
raids.
At the age of 18 she married the
late King Fisher and they ranched
on the 7-D Ranch near La Pryor for
several years, then to Uvalde, where
King Fisher was acting sheriff in
1884, at the time he, with Ben
Thompson, was killt-d in San An-
tonio. Mrs. Fisher moved back to
the Pendencia ranch home, where
she reared her three little gills
Later she came to Carrizo Springs,
back of Uvalde, Mr and Mrs. O. S. |
Harper, the bridegroom’s parents,
Mr and Mrs. O. S. Harper. Jr., and
Mr and Mrs. Hap Russell, Mr. and
Mrs. Harold DeBona and yon, Har-
old, all of Eagle Puss; Mr. and Mis.
M W. Accrs of San Antonio, Mrs.

Mrs. O. S. Harper Jr , of Eagle
Pass, was matron of honor. She were
a powder blue frock. The brides
maids were Miss Jeanette Holsom-
back, sister of the bride, and three
former schoolmates of the bride who
were: Jane Chinn, Jo Marguerite Fcr-
gurson and Mary Evelyn Crawford.
Their frocks, which were all similar,

Kowalski of Garner Field came
Christmas Eve and were guests of

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. MeNeal and
their two sons, George and Jim of
San Marcos, were guests Wednesday
aftd Thursday of Mrs. Ruth Webb.
Mi:s. Webb and Mrs. MeNeal were
girlhood friends and attended gram-
mar school togetiier. Mr. MeNeal is
a teacher at San Marcos Academy.
Pfc. Alvin Morris, who is in the
Marine Corps and stationed in San
Diego, Calif, is on a leave of absence
and is here spending the time with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Mor-
ris. Their youngest son, Marvin, who
is in the shipyards in Houston in de-
fense work, is also home on a visit.

Adding to the beauty of the scene
were the two little flower girls, Kar-
olen Holsomback, sister of the bride,
and Ann Williams, whose lovely
blush pink frocks and bonnets were
made of taffeta.
O. S. Harper, Jr., brother of the
bridegroom, was the best man and
the groomsmen were Harold De-
Bona, Tito Harper, Sam Mikulinsky
and Hap Russell, all of Eagle Pass.
Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion was held at the bride's home at
419 East Crockett Street. The home
was decorated throughout
white gladioli.
The bride’s table was laid in Ital-
ian lace. White carnations and white
sweet peas arranged in a crystal
bowl flanked by crystal candelubra
in which white tapers burned, was
the attractive centerpiece. On the
table was also the large ring wed-
ding cake. Embossed on the confec-
tion were sugar-spun pink rosebuds
and carnations.
Mrs. Tom Black served the cake
and Mrs. Effie Acers, assisted by
Miss Jeanette Holsomback, presided
at the coffee service.
Mr. and Mrs. Harper left after the
reception for a wedding trip to Mon-1
terrey, after which they will be at
home at El Azuleja, Coahuila, Mex-
ico until Mr. Harper is called for
duty in the Air Corps of which he
is a volunteer.

Robbie Busby returned Sunday to
gan Antonio to resume Iter studies
at Trinity University after spending
the holidays here with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Busby and family.
Mrs. Busby and Miss Alice Erler
took Robbie to the city and returned
on Monday.

The bride’s traveling costume was
a suit of blue wool crepe fashioned
with long fitted jacket, trimmed in
black applique bands.
The bride was one of Crystal
City’s popular girls of the younger
set. Following her graduation from
Crystal City High School she attend-
ed Our Lady of the Lake College in
San Antonio, and Hockaday School
in Dallas.
The bridegroom attended Texas
A. and M. College following his grad-
uation from Eagle Pass High School.
