Trial of these charges came up
in April, 1906, in Abilene, and a
hardfought legal battle ensued,
the trial resulted in an acquittal
on the charge of ombezzlement,
out a conviction on the charges
of abstraction, false entry and
misappropriation. The case was
appealed and reversed, and tried
again in April, 1907. This trial
was also held in Abilene and
lasted two weeks.
A special venire of 125 men

Senator Bailey declares that
he lias never written to any
member of the executive com-
mittee about what should or
should not be done at the Fort
Worth meeting,” He admits,
however, that he “wrote letters1
to six members of that com-
mittee, asking that they attend
in person or give proxies to!
some one who would attend,”
etc. It appears again that
Senator Bailey of Texas Iun
“not examined the statute of
late,” and is unprepared there-j
fore to “say what it requires or
permits;" but lie, like members
of the committee who voted
against it. is for it if- if if,
without violating the law,” etc.
In the meantime the people
are plowing ground and saying
nothing for publication.—Dallas
