Minor injuries
Three out-of-town persons were injured in a two-car wreck late
Thursday afternoon at the intersection of NW 11th St. and the
Hobbs Highway in Seminole The 1971 Ford Pinto, pictured
above, was driven by Ricky Edwards of Midland and he, along
with passengers David Shift of Carrazozo, N.M., and Richard
Baumann, also of Midland, were treated and released at

Facing a Nov. 30 grant
application deadline, officials
with the city and Cotton Pool, Inc
plunged headlong last week into
getting commitments oh cotton
acreage that would serve as a
type of “collateral” for a
multi million dollar loan to secure
a cotton compress and warehouse
for the Seminole area.
Some 30 Cotton Pool members
attended a meeting Wednesday
afternoon at which they were
brought up to date on the project
and also asked to commit to a
contract the number of acres they
the warehouse and compress.
The commitment of acreage
was needed as a type of collateral
to help ensure approval of the
Housing and Urban Development
grant, and the Farmers Home
Administration loan guarantee
needed for t he project
Nita Gibson, president of Cotton
Pool. Inc. of Texas, reported that
24.300 bales of cotton were
committed at the Wednesday
meeting. The organization is
hoping to secure, commitments ol
at least 100,000 bales of cotton for

eminole receives check
for November sales lax
The City of Seminole's Novem-
ber share of the one per cent city
sales tax climbed nearly $2,000
compared to a year ago
Seminole received $6,446.21 for
its shaFOi bringing the 11-month
total to $UKt. 376.65, an increase of
nine per cent At the same period
last week, the city received
$4,679.65 for a total amount of
$91,651.17.
.State Comptroller Bob Bullock
says that Texas cities received
$19.8 million as their November
share of the local option one per
cent tax. And, money which Texas
cities received for the month
totaled slightly less than last
month’s rebate, but the yearly
total is still about $42 million
ahead of payments made over the
same period fast year.
The November checks raised
the cities’ total to $349.8 million.
The sales tax is collected by
merchants and other sales tax
permit holders along with the
state sales tax and is rebated
monthly to the cities in which it is
collected by the Comptroller’s
Office.
Houston’s check for this
reporting period was $4 million,

Santa Claus due here!
Santa Claus will make his
official visit to Seminole Wednes-
day afternoon when the Seminole
Area Chamber of Commerce
kickoff its Christmas activities.
Santa will arrive in Seminole in
mid-afternoon and make his
appearance at the courthouse
square at 3 p.m. The Seminole
Lions Club will furnish candy for
the youngsters and the Seminole
High School band, under the
direction of Mickey Owens, will
provide the entertainment.
The Chamber will also sponsor
its annual home lighting contest
with $100 going to the first place
winners. Also, $75 will be awarded
to the runner-up while third place
will receive a $50 prize.
In other activities, the retail
committee of the chamber will
sponsor a drawing of three $10 gift
certificates which are good on a
