METEROR PASSES
OVER THIS Cin
Several persons who were up
as late as 11:45 last Saturday
night reported seeing a falling
meteror passing around the
eastern part of the city at that
time. The meteror was first seen
in thp southeast and was travel-
ing northeast when it suddenly
disappeared. The light from it
was so bright it lit up bedrooms,
awakening the occupants. It is
believed the falling metror is
buried in the ground somewhere
in this vicinity.
This beats any flying saucer
story around here to date.

BO THEM THIS WAY
Laundering dark cottons and
linens, such as navy or black,
lias long been a problem for
housewives because quite often
a soapy film is left on the sur-
face of the material when it is
dry.
It shouldn’t worry housewives
any longer. . .not if they do it
this way:
First, the housewife should
use detergents, the soapless
kind, but to be sure and read
the directions on the package,
as gome detergents are used for
cotton while others are
commended for rayons. Next,
she says to use gelatin instead
Of starch. Dissolve one table-
spoon of gelatin in a little cold
water and then add two
quarts of boiling water. The
amount of water used depends
on the desired stiffness of the
garment.
After the garment has been
washed and rinsed, and while
still damp, dip it into the gela-
tin colution, squeebe-out, roll in
a towel, and iron while damp.

T. P. Lee, whose farm is loca-
ted in the Mt. Olive group, har-
vested 200 pounds of Madrid
Clover seed from 6.10 acres. Mr.
Lee finds Madrid Clover to be a
soil holder and soil builder as
well as an excellent grazing
crop.
J. M. Mays, cooperator with
the Brown-Mills soil Conserva-
tion District, whose farm is lo-
cated in the South Bennett
group, recently constructed 400
feet of terraces in one hour and
forty minutes with a Ford trac-
tor and double disc plow.
T. J. Watson, whose farm is
located in the Center City Con-
servation group, last fall
planted seven acres of Alfalfa.
He fertilized six acres with 150
pounds of 20% super phosphate
per acre anad used no fertilizer
on one acre. The first cutting
he baled 55 bales from the six
acres and in 21 days baled 133
bales from the same plot. The
unfertilized acre has produced
one bale to date.
Floyd Partin, another coope-
rator, has cut approximately 4
acres of Hubam clover with a
binder. The clover will remain
in shocks for several days be-
fore being thresher. This meth-
od of harvesting allows the
clover to dry evenly making
threshing easier. It will also al-
low time for some green seed to
mature before threshing..
The Soil Scientist with the
Soil Conservation Service made
Conservation Surveys of the
Scallorn group last week. This
group is -composed of Ward Car-
lile, Victor Williams, F. E. Ec-
kert, C. S. Smith, M. F. Hines
and T. A. Casbeer. They are
having their second planning-
meeting this week.
