A. A. Loyd of Waco, and
Floyd A. Taylor, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Taylor of Wes-
laco, formerly of Mercedes
were married April 16 in
the Herring Methodist
church in Waco.
The Rev. Dr. H. Brown
Loyd of Waxahachie, uncle
of the bride, performed the
ceremony, assisted by the
Rev. Guy Purdue, minister of
the church.
The bride wore a white
linen suit with white acces-
sories and an orchid cor-
sage.
Her maid of honor, Miss
Mary Ruth Slater of Waco,
wore a blue suit, with white
accessories and a corsage of
carnations.
.James Allen Loyd, bro-
ther of the bride, served as
Tea in Cuero Is Honor
To Miss Eileen Marchant
Miss Eileen Marchant,
bride-elect of Lt. H. Tommy
Heyer of Cuero, was honored
last Saturday with a tea in
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Ed DeLeon of Cuero.
Co-hostessing the tea with
Mrs. DeLeon were Mrs. Jack
Wayne and Mrs. John C.
Davis.
Throughout the home was a
profusion of seasonal floral
arrangements, as the De-
Leon home was one of four
homes on exhibit for an an-
nual flower show and tour of
homes. On the buffet was
the arrangement which Mrs.
DeLeon entered and received
the tri-color ribbon.
An all-white floral ar-
rangement in a cut-glass
bowl centered the tea table
laid with a white cloth.
Assisting in the house par-
ty were Mrs. Burns McAl-
lister, Mrs. Milton Kasch,
Mrs. Earl Adcock, Mrs.
Birthday, Mrs.

Honorees
The April 20 meeting of
Lt. Thomas Barlow Chap-
ter, Daughters of the Ameri-
can Revolution, was a dual
celebration, that of the fifty-
second birthday of the chap-
ter and the observation of the
golden anniversary of the
membership of Mrs. C. M.
Cash in the Society and in
the Chapter.
Mrs. Heino T. Brasch,
chairman of National Defen-
se, especially emphasized
“the deadly myth of over-
production in agriculture.”
Mrs. Gerald McKenna,
well known in this area for
her interest in local history,
gave the program for the
day on “Early T rails in the
Rio Grande Valley.**

of Waco high school and
Southwestern University in
Georgetown. She is a mem-
ber of Phi Mu sorority and
Delta Omicorn internation-
al music sorority.
Mr. Taylor is a graduate
of Mercedes high school and
is a machiniest mate second
class in the United States
Navy, aboard the U.S.S, Neo-
sho, based at Norfolk, Va.
The couple honeymooned
on the Gulf Coast.
Following Mr. Taylor’s
separation from the service,
the couple plan to make their
home in Weslaco, where
Mrs. Taylor is a member of
the Stephen F. Austin ele-
mentary school faculty. Mr.
T aylor plans to attend Pan
American College.
Mrs. Bob Gray received
the Ritual of Jewels degree
at the regular meeting of
the Mercedes chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi on Monday night.
Mrs. James Lauderdale con-
ducted the ceremony, at the
close of the business ses-
sion. This degree marks the
end of pledge training for a
new member, who receives
her jeweled pin in a candle-
light ceremony.
In other business, Mrs.
Lauderdale named a com-
mittee, Mrs. J. L. Brewer
and Mrs. Milton Hild to as-
sist her in planning the con-
cession stand for the Lion’s
Club Garage Sale June 4.
Proceeds from this project
will go to the new library
building fund.
Mrs.Basinger
Is Pinned
The Gamma Lambda chap-
ter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha
sorority met in the home
of Mrs. F. V. Mitchell for
a pledge pin ceremony,
Thursday evening, April 21,
honoring Mrs. Bill Basinger
and also honoring Mrs. L.
M. McDonald on having com-
pleted 15 years in the in-
ternational sorority.
Following the ceremonies,
conducted by the president,
Mrs. Glenn Henderson,
games of “Wahoo’’ were
played, with Mrs. Basinger
Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Way-
burn Dalton winning prizes.
Refreshments of angel-
food cake, candies, nuts,
cokes and Mrs. Glenn Hen-
derson, Mrs. L. M. McDon-
ald, Mrs. Wayburn Dalton,
Mrs. Richard Sledge, Mrs.
Bob Williams, Mrs. Bob
Sanders, Mrs. Albert
Brandt, Miss Muriel Ren-
naker, Mrs. Bill Basinger
and the hostess, Mrs. Mit-
chell.
Mrs. Sidney McClendon
was presented the tradition-
al crested silver cup for the
McClendon’s new arrival.
Because of the success of
the recent Guest Day Tea,
members voted to make it an
annual affair in May with the
'Girl of the Year’ as guest
of honor.
Making reservations for
the annual Founder’s Day
Banquet hosted by Edcouch
at Richard’s Gold Room
Thursday night, April 28,
were 14 members. At this
traditionally formal affair,
which also includes Weslaco
chapters, the identity of the
‘Girl of the Year’ is reveal-
ed.
Mrs. Lauderdale was hos-
tess for the meeting, assis-
ted by Mrs. Emmett Al-
bright. Twenty members at-
tended.

Reviewed for East Zonta Club
The regular business
meeting of East Hidalgo Zon-
ta club was atHarold’s Coun-
try Kitchen Thursday.
Mrs. Letha MacVean, vice
president, presided in the
absence of Mrs. Angie
Stuart, president, whose mo-
ther is seriously ill in Knapp
Methodist hospital.
The meeting was called
to order and the Zonta bless-
ing was led by Mrs. Patsy
Blackwell.
A letter from Mrs. Elida
Wills, a teacher in the spe-
cial educational classes in
Mercedes, was read. She
discussed the new methods in
teaching that have been added
to the system. Materials
from the ‘Development of
Visual Perception and the
‘Peabody Language Develop-
ment* kits were acquired by
the Mercedes Independent
School system under the pro-
visions of the Federal Acts
Title ^ and Title II. She ex-
pressed appreciation to the
club for the Easter party
given for the classes. Thank-
you letters from the children
were passed members to
read.
Invitations to an installa-
tion of officers meeting from
Harlingen Zonta Club and
Willacy County Zonta Club
were read. .
