Vows Set
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rod-
riguez of Mercedes, an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Fatima, to
Raul Flores, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Pedro G. Flores of
McAllen.
The bride-elect, is a
senior at Pan American col-
lege. The prospective bride-
groom is a senior at Texas
A&M University where he is
studying civil engineering.
A wedding in August is
planned by the couple.
LUNCHEON FOR DAR
Members of the Lt. Tho-
mas Barlow chapter of DAR
will meet at the Harlingen
Country Club for a 1 p.m.
luncheon, Wednesday, Jan-
uary 19.

Mrs. Alice Robertson of
Elsa was program chairman
when members of Epsilon
Phi Chapter, Delta Kappa
Gamma Sorority, had a din-
ner meeting at Harold’s
Country Kitchen in Donna
Saturday evening.
Mrs. Robertson showed
color slides of “Come Catch
A Rainbow’’ and told how
each of the rainbow colors
can be used in home decora-
tion.
Mrs. Hazel Lyons, Soro-
rity president, conducted the
business session and led the
Delta Kappa Gamma Collect
before the buffet dinner was
served.
Miss Hazel Frerking,
scholarship chairman, re-
ported briefly on require-
ments and announced that
further information will be
given at the February meet-
ing.
Mrs. Nancy Andersen led
the group in singing the Del-
ta Kappa song for the clos-
ing number.

Here Talked
Plans were discussed by
members of the Epsilon Psi
chapter of Epsilon Sigma
Alpha for a future district
meeting to be conducted in
Mercedes when Mrs. Cesar
Bazar was hostess for the
chapter members at her
home Monday night.
Mrs. B. J. Nolen presided
and called for a report on
a- visit chapter members
made at the Hidalgo
Memorial Old Folks home.
Daughters of members pro-
vided entertainment for the
home’s patients. Bonnie Ba-
zar danced an adagio, Mary
Canty played a flute solo,
and Pat Harville played the
piano.
Mrs. A. L. Clubb was
in charge of the education-
al program, ‘Celts and Scy-
thians: Wanderers of the
North’.
Following the meeting,

Couple
To Wed
The engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of Miss
Guadalupe Pena of Weslaco,
daughter of Mrs. Celete Vd.
de Pena of Weslaco, to Ro-
dolfo A. Saenz of Mercedes,
has been announced. He is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jose
A. Saenz of Mercedes.
The couple will exchange
wedding vows January 29 at
10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc
church in Weslaco.
The bride-elect is a grad-
uate of Weslaco high school
and the prospective bride-
groom, of Mercedes high
school.
Miss Marsha Finley be-
came the bride of Jack Ben-
jamin Graf, December 27
in Immanuel Baptist church
in El Paso.
Parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mrs. Guy C, Finley
of El Paso and Mr. and Mrs.
George B< Graf of Mercedes,
who attended the wedding.
Mrs. Graf, mother of the
bridegroom, was soloist,
singing, ‘Thine Alone’, ac-
companied by her son, Jack,
the bridegroom, on the or-
gan. Miss Eunice Fletcher
provided a prelude of nuptial
music at the organ.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a
formal gown of white satin
with lace appliques on the
bodice and a scalloped train.
Her veil of illusion was held
by a pill box hat covered
with lace flowers outlined
with pearls. She carried a
bouquet of yellow roses atop
a white nurse’s Bible.
Mrs. Pat Lockett was ma-
tron of honor, wearing a gold
brocade sheath and carrying
a bouquet of bronze chry-
santhemums. Dick Graf, of
Sinton, was his brother’s
best man. Candlelighters
were Robert Finley, brother
of the bride, and Bruce Pon-
der. Ushers were Bob Clark
and Hal Eurich, business
associates of the groom.
A reception in the fellow-
ship hall followed the cere-
mony.
The bridegroom was grad-
uated from Texas Christian
University, Fort Worth, with
a B.A, degree. He is co-
owner of the “T urn of the
Century Theatre-Resau-
rant’’, and is a piano instruc-
tor at Tri-State Music Co.
The bride is a graduate of
Hendrick MemorialHospital
School of Nursing, Abilene,
and is a nurse at Providence
Memorial hospital.
Following a wedding trip
to Mexico, the couple are
at home at 515 New York
Ave., El Paso.
Out of town guests attend-
ing from Mercedes, were
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stuart.
Former Mercedes residents
attending were Mr. and Mrs.
Tom McAfee, Mr. and Mrs.
Ce B. Ray, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Stuart, Mrs. Hank Irby
and Dr. and Mrs. Wm. Mad-
dox.
The rehearsal dinner,
Sunday was hosted by Mr.
and Mrs. George Graf and
son, Dick.
Local Ladies Were Hostesses
The Captain Thomas Jef-
ferson Chapter, Colonial
Dames of the XVII Century
held its quarterly meeting,
Saturday atHarold*s Country
Kitchen, Donna.
Hostesses for the meeting
were Miss A. Louise Har-
ris and Mrs. John W. Irby
of Merceces, The table was
centered with an arrange-
ment of red roses. Hand
sketched place cards for
each, made by Mrs. E. D,
Bazar, a guest of the host-
esses, added to the enjoy-
ment of the luncheon, which
was served buffet style.
Mrs. Irby, chaplain for the
chapter, gave an inspira-
tional prayer as the bless-
ing. Mrs. G. N, Magee an-
nounced that the twenty-
eighth annual State Confer-
ence will beinHouston, Feb-
ruary 24-25, at the Ameri-
ca Hotel. Mrs. A. E, Pot-
ter was elected as a delegate
to the Conference to repre-
sent the chapter.
Mrs. Magee introduced
Mrs. H. E. Dinger who gave
an interesting review of
“Saints and Strangers’’ by
George F. Wilson.
MARRIED IN GERMANY — Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Garza are shown above following their marriage
December 11 in Germany. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Juan Garza of Mercedes and is a graduate
from Mercedes high school. She is the former Miss
Josephine Lucas of Spain. Best man was the bro-
ther of the bridegroom, Johnny. Both the bride-
groom and best man are stationed in Germany in
the Armed Forces.
