Raymond McCauley of Hous-
ton. Mrs. Hazzard, Mrs. Mc-
Cauley, and Mrs. Kelley are
sisters. While here they also
visited with their mother,
Mrs. Sam Jones. Other
guests in the Kelley’s and
Jones’ homes last week were
Mrs. Sam Cook and Ira Mc-
Neil of Winters, Mrs. Theo
Singleton of Sweetwater, and
Mrs. Archer McNeil of Ros-

Seen at the 12:30 Luncheon
Club in Harlingen on Friday
were Mrs. Henry Lauder-
dale, Mrs. Gilson Knapp,
and Mrs. N. P. Barton Jr.
Pvt. Danny Reeves has
returned to Bergstrom Air
Force Base in Austin after
spending a week with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F.
Reeves.
Dr. R. H. Cintron left last
Wednesday for Puerto Rico
to be with his father, who is
critically ill.
The Saturday Night club
met in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Mike Clifford. Mem-
bers attending were Mr.
and Mrs. Floyd Langford,
Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Collier
Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Virgil
Thompson, Mr. and Mrs.
Otho Joyce, Mrs. ClydeHol-
lon, and guests, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Van Bergen.
Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Col-
lier Sr. entertained Sunday
with a buffet dinner. Attend-
ing were Mr. and Mrs.
Adrian Brower, Mr. and
Mrs. J. D. Vollmer, Mrs,
Clyde Hollon, and Mrs.
George d’Hemecourt,
The Los Ebanos Study Club
met in the home of Mrs.
James Lauderdale Monday
afternoon. Mrs. Milton Hild
was co-hostess. Members
answered roll call with their
pet peeves of other drivers,
Mrs. N, P. Barton Jr.,
president, turned the
meeting over to Mrs. Clyde
Hollon, program chairman.
The program, ‘Vacation Or-
ientation’, was presented by
John Machmer, who show-
ed slides of Washington, D.C.
His topic was ‘Know Your
Capital City’. Mrs. Marvin
Schwarz and Mrs. Shelley
Collier Jr. passed out traf-
fic safety questionaires to
be filled in by the mem-
bers. Members attending
were Mrs. J. W, Chambers,
Mrs. Bob Crook, Mrs. Barr
Ewing, Mrs. Charles Green-
wood, Mrs. W. W. Holmes,
Mrs. Robert Johnston, Mrs.
Gilson Knapp, Mrs. Floyd
Langford, Mrs. M. R. Law-
ler, Mrs. Earle Martin,
Mrs. Charles Ricke, Mrs.
A. D. Stuart, and Mrs. J. D.
Vollmer, Next meeting will
be Feburay 17 at the home
of Mrs. Henry Lauderdale.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cruick-
shank, of Ronanoke, Va.,
were houseguests last week
of Mrs. C. D. MacVean.
Mr. Cruickshank lived in
Mercedes in 1909. Mrs.
Cruickshank, the former
Miss Ruby Thomson, was
an employee of the Hidalgo
County Bank and Trust com-
pany in 1923.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Za-
vala and daughters, Jean and
Laurie, from Pontiac, Mich.,
are visiting their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. ManuelG. Tre-
vino and Mr, and Mrs. Gua-
dalupe Zavala. The Zavales
are former residents of
Mercedes.
Miss Ann Jones of Dallas
visited here for a few days.
The Woman’s Study Club
met in the home of Mrs. E.
A. DeJong Monday afternoon.
Mrs. H. E. Miller, presi-
dent, called the meeting to
order. Mrs. W. H. Drawe,
parliamentarian .led the
ladies in the ‘Collect’. Guest
speaker was Mrs. Ralph
Murdoch who showed slides
and told about her trip to
the Hawaiian Islands. Date-
chocolate cake, nuts, mints,
tea, and coffee were served
to the 12 members attending.
The Woman’s Society of
Christian Service celebrated
their 25th anniversary at
the Fellowship Hall of the
First Methodist church with
a covered dish supper enter-
taining the Wesleyan Guild.
Mrs. Floyd Langford, pres-
ident of the W.S.C.S., wel-
comed the ladies; Mrs.
Charles Armstrong, presi-
dent of the Wesleyan Guild,
acknowledged the welcome.
Mrs, C. 0. Dale gave the
invocation before the dinner.
Guest speaker was Mrs. Roy
Hunt, president of the Me
Allen District. She gave a
resume of the last 25
years of the W.S.C.S.—its
work, accomplishments, and
what will be expected in the
future. After the dinner a
large birthday cake with 25
candles was brought in and
every one sang Happy birth-
day. Ladies attending were:

retta Temple, Mrs. Ruth Wy-
ers, Mrs. Don Hamilton,
Mrs. Lucille Markham, Mrs.
Irene Dinkglage, Mrs. Sam
