Bill Atchley cares about
young people, and it is this con-
cern which caused him to enter
the field of education.
Born and reared in DeKalb,
Texas, Mr. Atchley was active
in various sports throughout
high school. He decided to ma-
jor i'n physical education and
become a high school coach be-
cause, he says, "I love work-
ing with kids and sports.” He
received his bachelor’s degree
from East Texas State Univer-
sity in 1951, and after serving
in the Army, he coached in De-
Kalb, Albany, Throckmorton,
and Breckenridge before coming
to Weatherford in 1962. He was
coach here until 1970 when he
became vice-principal.

Most of those who cause prob-
lems are having trouble in scho-
ol, and it seems to Mr. Atchley
that they do not think school
is teaching them anything they
can use in life. He believes
that a good many of them want
to take vocational courses, but
cannot because of the necessa-
