TO MRS. A. SILVERMAN
A regular meeting of the Hous-

the home of Mrs. Dave Kaplan;
and was followed by a tea hon-

also stressed the need for the
Mizrachi movement and pointed

their activity both here and in
Palestine. She has personally
visited the lovely homes that
house the refugees and help them
to become self-sustaining.
Mrs. J. H. Axelrod, chairman,
was assisted by Mrs. Feldman
and her committee, including
Mesdames Dave Kaplan, M. Am-

ered a piano solo; Miss Sara

aeroplanes are more to his liking than legal pursuit . . . Our
best wishes to Lee W. Blank and Ethel Finkelstein who were
married Saturday night . . . And its a bundle of pink for the
Schepps . . . From what I hear, Abe Weiner will be figuring
in an important announcement soon . . . And that reminds me
that our best wishes are due Charlie Maltz on his engagement
Went to the Jewish Community Center to hear Leo Schwarz
. . . found much delight in the full, toothy smile . . . wonder
why they don't give us substance rather than looks . . . have
yet to figure out just what was what expecting that his book
was worth reading . .. Looks as though one of the fixtures have
gone and went from the Center—Cecil Dannenbaum—and there
won’t be “hello there” to greet you regularly . . . And an ob-
servation . . . many take in the intellectual-cultural entertain-
ments, but oh so few ask about the membership fees or take
one without urging.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: He who wishes to secure the
good of others, has already secured his own. —Confucius.

YOUTH AND DEMOCRACY
RALLY PLANNED FOR FEB. U
A gigantic Youth and Demo-
cratic Rally is being planned for
February 23rd at the City Audi-
torium by more than two score
of youth organizations represent-
ing every major church, youth
organization, and race in the city
and with an aggregate total mem-
bership running in the thousands.
This is the first affair of its
kind ever to be given in Houston
and under the guidance of Charles
Moskowitz, General Chairman,
and representative of A. Z. A.,
the organization which first pro-
posed the idea, the Rally is gain-
ing momentum.
February 22-28 has been na-
tionally proclaimed as Brother-
hood Week and this Youth Rally
on Sunday afternoon, February
23 is the first program, the key-
note of all the Brotherhood ac-
tivities in our city. The program
is being eagerly supported by such
senior organizations as the Na-
tional Conference of Christians
and Jews and the Chamber of
Commerce, and has been fully
endorsed by such men as Mr.
Neal Pickett, Mr. Ike L. Freed,
and Former Governor James V.
Allred.
Three speakers, a Catholic, a
Protestant, and a Jew each with
a national reputation are coming
here especially to speak at this
meeting. They are: Dr. S F.
Lisewski, President of St Ed-
ward’s University, Austin, Texas;
Rev. Wm. C. Burton, First Con-
gregational Church, Kansas City,
Mo.; and Dr. Julian Feibelman.
Rabbi of New Orleans, La.
A very carefully planned pro-
gram has been arranged, and be-
sides the three speakers who will
speak in the form of a Panel Dis-
cussion, many other unusual and
interesting features will help
make this program a most edu-
cational as well as interesting
one.

merely one of relief. Important
as that it A disaster of such pro-
portions as has overtaken the
Jews of Europe cannot be con-
fined to a country or a continent
Its effects ignore national boun-
daries, natural barriers and even
oceans. They are felt around the
world. It is simple logic to say
that the well-being of every Jew
on earth, not excepting the Jews
of America, is bound up with the
fate of European Jewry. If they
are allowed to perish, we will be
the weaker. They must be
strengthened and preserved for
the day when they will once again
be free to rebuild their lives in
security.1'
