Both expected heavy traffic
this upcoming weekend for the
rescheduled toy drive, which is
being led by the Army Reserve

Most of the originally sched-

at the mall, Cabanas said.
At noon Saturday, there will
be a puppet show by Maricela
and Friends, then at 3 p.m. the
Bennay & Logan Band will play
live music, followed by Stefan
Prigmore at 5:30 p.m. Toy col-
lections will continue until 3
p.m. Sunday. Also this weekend,
a group of motorcycles will es-
cort a military vehicle full of toys
to the mall.
The final day for collections
will be Monday. That night,
there will be a drive at the Texas
Woman’s University basketball
game, where attendees who do-

American Red Cross issues
call for blood donors
Officials with the American
Red Cross this week issued a call
for blood donations to help
shore up supplies in the wake of
recent severe weather that
forced cancellation of some area
blood drives and resulted in
poor turnout for others.
As residents are able to re-
turn to normal activities and it’s
considered safe to travel, the
Red Cross encourages eligible
donors to make a blood dona-
tion appointment by visiting
www.redcrossblood.org or call-
ing 1-800-RED CROSS.
Blood donations of all types
are needed to maintain an ade-
quate supply for patients in
need, especially types O nega-
tive, B negative and A negative.
Platelet donations are also need-
ed since they must be transfused
within five days of donation and
must be constantly replenished.
A blood donor card or driv-
er’s license or two other forms of
identification are required to
give blood. Individuals who are
17 years of age, weigh at least 110
pounds and are in generally
good health may be eligible to
donate.

off, just not necessarily last weekend but
throughout this week. On the bright side,
because school was canceled Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday, everyone’s been

shopping. ”
