Brighton Colo Juno 23 An Im-
portant and very agreeable discovery
has been made near here It being no
ctler than that tho grasshoppers ate
dylnjf in large numbers and there now
seems a promise of this awful pest
being1 wiped out by soma unknown
dlseare or power The discovery was
made by N H Taylor better known as
Judge Taylor He noticed a good
many dead hoppers on the ground of
his alfalfa field after he had cut It
and investigating further be found a
strip of uncut alfalfa alone the ditch
lunk covered with dead hoppers while
those still alive seemed very stupid
and stugglsh Your correspondent
was called to the scene and gathered
somesprigs ot the alfalfa to which
the hoppers are still clinging and has
sent them to the agricultural college
to ascertain tt possible the cause of
death No poison had been put out
near where these were foundr
Inquiry among1 a number of farmers
has elicited the further Information
that In many places they are dying In
large numbers It seems to be a di-
sease No one iho has not seen the
Infested fields can have any Idea of
their nunber They aro here In un
told and uncountable millions and
until this strange dlsensa struck them
were devastating the crop
Nothing but the grasshoppers stood
between the farmers ot the valley
hereabouts and the harvesting of the
btjrgcst crop of grass and grain evvr
known here and now that the pest
seems to be on the rosd to destruction
there Is general rejoicing
