—but did you know just how many days
were colder than the same period last year?
^pHE WEATHER is th* most universal topic
A of conversation. But few people really know
anything about it. Feelings are so deceiving! If
it's hot, most people say, "P-h-e-w! this is the
hottest weather I ever saw!”—if it’s cold, they
jump just as far the other way and say, "B-r-r-r!
This is the coldest weather I ever saw!” They’re
probably wrong both times. It's so hard to re-
member what the temperature actually was at
any given time. But those of you who said right
along, "This is the coldest February we’ve had
for yean,” were correct! The mean temperature
for the 31 day period from January 21 to Feb-
ruary 20 was the lowest in fifteen years! There
were more cold, disagreeable days in this climate
than during any similar period for all that time.
Here are tne comparative figures for this year
and last year, based on mean temperatures at
Dallas, a more or less central point in Lone Star
territory!

Congress now proposes to pay
a pension of $5,000 per year to Mrs.
Woodrow Wilson, also a like amount
to Mrs. Leonard Wood. Neither of
these ladies need the money, and a
pension from the pockets just be-
cr.use It is custom, is poor policy.
These great men had opportunity In
their Ilfs time to provide for their
widows and aid so, therefore, It Is
quite unworthy of a great nation as
this to entarrass them by putting
them on the pension list.

Tires for the new Ford
are specially made
0 f
give long wear
When the new Ford waa de-
signed, it was immediately
apparent that a new tire
would have to be made to
match the car’s perform-
ance. It was distinctly a new
problem, for here was a car
with quicker .acceleration,
greater speed und more
braking efficiency than uny
Cur of similar size or weight.
So that every Ford owner
might be assured of maxi-
mum tire mileuge at tho low-
est cost, the Ford Motor
Company devoted many
months tr research and
experiment in conjunc-
tion with the leading tire
manufacturers.
As a result, certain defi-
nite specifications were de-
veloped for tires for the new
Ford. These specify cords of
certain strength and texture,
a large volume of trend and
side-wall rubber, sturdy non-
skid design, und reinforced

Though tho Ford tireaare
designated as 30 x 4.50,
they have tbe resiliency and
air spooe of much larger
Urea because of the drop
renter rim of the steel-spoke
wheels.
For best results, the tires
on tbe nesv Ford should be
kept inflated to an air pres-
sure of 33 pounds and
checked regularly to insure
this pressure all the time.
This is important. Low in-
flation breaks down the side-
walls of a tire. By reusing
overheating, it also destroys
the rubber that acts as an
insulation, with consequent
•eparution of the cord.
At the end of each 5000
miles, when you have die
front wheels packed with
grease, it is a good plan to
have the wheel alignment
checked. This will prevent
premature wear.
