The Texon Oilers, one of the
strongest clubs in this section,
will invade Osona next Sunday
afternoon for their first game of
the season with the Osona Giants.
The Giants, who have played

tion in the coming fracas here
Sunday afternoon. The game will
get under way at 3 o’clock.
The Sheep Herders of San An-
gelo are seeking a game with the
Giants to be played here and ef-
forts are now being made to ar-
range a date. The Sheep Herders
will likely be entertained here in
the next few weeka.
Lemmons Dry Goods Company
will open its doors at 9 o’clock Fri
day morning on the biggest bar-
gain event the concern has staged
in the five years it has been in
business in Osona. A double page

The Home Economics Depart-
ment of the Ozona High School
honored the 1931-1932 football
squad with a banquet on Wednes-
day evening, April 20. Covers
were laid for thirty-four guests.
The »*>!or scheme of purple and
gold was carried out by yellow
programs cut in shape of helmets
and yellow nut cups. Purple and
gold flowers were used for a cen-
ter decoration.
The progt.tm was divided into
quarters with Miller Robison act-
ing as referee. During the first
qivrter a toast to coach White
was given by Miller Robison and
a toast to captain and team as a
response was given by Mr. White.
During the period between halv-
es, Tommy Smith and Carolyn
Montgomery, dressed ns negroes,
put on a clever stunt, consisting
of a tag dance and negro readings.
The lest quarter was taken up
with the election of captain for
the 1932-1938 team. Buddy Moore
was elected to lead the “Roaring
Lions" down the field next sea-
son.
To conclude the program the
referee blew Um> whistle and Wil-
lie V. Coose came hustling in
dressed in a football suit and
passed a helmet of favors around.
Interesting highlights in the
history of Crockett County were j
reviewed in discussions at the an-1
nual “guest day” meeting of the j
Ozona Woman’s Club held Tues-
day afterrumn at the home of Mrs.
A. C. Hoover.
Mrs. W. E. West acted as leader
and gave interesting bits of local
history from her own personal ex-
perience, old letters and excerpts
from «*nrly newspapers of Orona
Mrs. Laura Hoover, who with
her husband, W. P. Hoover, pion-
eered this section in 1890, told of
the hardships she and her hus-
band endured in their move from
the head of the Llano River in j
Kimble County to the Beaver Lake j
section in that year. They brought |
with them 200 head of cattle and
eight horses and since there were
no wells of any description in
this section one of their greatest
rials wan the lack of water.
The remaining history of the
county as gleaned from newspa-
per files and personal memory
was given in papeis covering the
succeeding years, divided into j
ten-year periods, by Mrs. W. R.
Baggett, Mrs. N. W. Graham and
Miss Elizabeth Fussell. M r s.
Charles E. Davidson, Sr., and Mrs. J
Pon Seahsirn. who were guests. J
told of the early ranches, their lo-1
cations and brands.

Lions will go in for baseball in a
big way this week when they are
slated for a two-game series with
the Junction Eagles on the local
diamond Friday and Saturday af-
ternoons.
The Junction lads will be quar-
tered here for the night Friday
night, to be on hand for the sec-
ond game Saturday afternpon.
The Friday afternoon game will
begin at 4 o’clock and the sec-

Commemorating the fortieth
year of the organization of the
First Baptist Church, the church
will in a special manner observe
Sunday May 8th. Since this Sun-
day is likewise Mother's Day, it is
planned to commemorate that in
connection with the anniversary.
Plans are under way for the
providing of ways for all the aged
to attend the services as guests
of honor. Flowers will lie provid-
ed for all in keeping with Moth-
er's Day customs. The minutes of
the organization of the church

been framed will be presented at
this service and arrorded a place
on the walla of the building for
all to see now and down the years.

Miss Tommy Smith was elected
leader of the Ozona High School
Pep Squad for the 1932-33 term at
a meeting of the Squad held at the
High School building Tuesday af-
ternoon.
Miss Smith was assistant lead-
er of the group of nooters during
the past season. Miss Berenice
Bailey being leader. The new lead-
er will choose her assistant with
tke opening of school next fall.
There were forty members of the
Pep Squad this year and with
their flashy uniforms and clever
stunts attracted no ifttle attention
at the football games.
