litis is one report I’m happy to write.
It s about the brighter side of a subject I’m always complaining
about - those "sportsmen" who show little or no respect for
others.
Just when I was about to reach the conclusion the efltire out-
. dow world had been overtaken by such people, a couple of trips
changed my mind.
tjhe first encouragement came one recent morning while I was
fishing for school bass on one of our East Teias reservoirs The
schools were surfacing in a large clearing between a shoreline
and a row of dead timber. t
That would have been fine, except for the fact the same clear-
ing also served as a "boat road" for fishermen traveling back and
When we found the fish there, the thought occurred to me that
we probably would get run over, or washed ashore, or slammed
into one of those dead snags, when some idiot and his 200-horse
monster came roaring put.
Five boats passed us while we wen there, and not a single one
of them even came dose. They slowed down, swung out as far as
} possible to avoid us. and picked up speed only after they had
} cleared us!
It was just like "the good old days" when every fisherman tried
to show his respect for other fishermen.
• I had hardly recovered from the shock of that experience when
‘ I was fishing out on the bsy ooe afternoon and this happened
We spotted several seagulls drettng and diving and moved in
slowly from the upwind side. The engine was cut and we slowly
drifted down toward the birth until we Were within casting
range.
