Gus Mutscher and two aides on

This is a step in. restoring
confidence in state govern-
ment. However, nothing will be
accomplished if people return
the same representatives to
Austin with the change only in
the Speaker and a very few
representatives.
There needs to be a sincere
effort by the people to send
strong and honest representa-
tives to Austin that will disas-
sociate themselves from the
special interest groups and .yet
produce effective legislation
“It now appears that a majo-
rity of the representatives
want to be reformers. Many of
[them were aware of the cor-
ruption that existed but failed
to take strong, investigative
[action. They joined the reform
movement only when it be-
came a popular thing to do.
“Even those representatives
who had a long and dose asso-
ciation with Gus Mutscher are

reform.” ' -----. 7
