FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
CHRIST
ABOVE ALL
Mercedes, Texas
The New Testament speaks of those who, by their
actions, incriminate themselves. They judge themsel-
ves to be unworthy of eternal life. Eternal life has
more than an endlessness to it. It is a quality of life
that the coming age shall reveal in fullness. It is “the
life of the age to come”. Every time in the Lord’s
rayer we pray Thy kingdom come”, we look forward
to that day and that kind of life.
We have something to ponder at this point. To-
morrow is coming. Are we worthy of entering into it.
** uppose God s kingdom did come, would wo bo worthy
of entering in, or would that kingdom, that “life of the
age to come”, be so upsetting that we could have no
joy in it.
In that lovely story “Bread and Wine”, a devout
Catholic woman, an innkeeper in Italy during the days
of Racism, wonders if a strange guest of hers might
not indeed be Jesus. But the government regulations
regarding inns give no rules concerning the possible
arrival of Jesus. And what about us? Does our way
of life provide for the coming of Jesus to our world?
This world or our friends, our economic pursuits, our
pleasures? Would His presence he upsetting? It was
at His first coming. King Ilerold and all Jerusalem
were troubled. What would it be like now, were He to
come in the maturity, in the fullness of His expecta-
tions? Do ouT" motives, our desires, our pursuits show
us worthy of the age to come?
