Double Ceremony Joins Local Couples Friday
Our Lady of Mercy Catho-
lic Church was the setting
for the double wedding of
Miss Eudelia Cortez to Sal-
vador Garcia and Miss Dora
Garcia to Elpidio Martinez
Alejandro Jr. Friday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Salvador
Garcia are parents of Miss
Garcia and Salvador Garcia.
Elias Cortez is father of
Miss Cortez. All live in
Mercedes. Parents of Mr.
Alejandro are Mr. and Mrs.
Elpidio Alejandro Sr. of
Weslaco.
The Rev. James Lyons,
OMI, performed the two
double-ring ceremonies.
The bride of Salvador Ga-
rcia, given in marriage by
her father, wore an empire
style formal gown of white
peau de soie with re-em-
broidered roses on the sle-
eves, bodice and skirt. She
carried a bouquet of white
roses with streamers tied
in lovers knots. Her three-
tiered veil of illusion was
held in place by a pearlized
orange blossom headpiece.
Also given in marriage
by her father, the bride of
Elpidio Alejandro wore a
formal sheath gown of re-
embroidered lace over satin.
Her lace scalloped cathedral
train fitted cape-style over
her shoulders. Her three-
tiered veil of illusion was
held in place by a pearl
crown. The bride’s Spanish
bouquet was made of pearls.
T raditional wedding music
was played by Miss Aurora
Reyna, organist.
Miss Arcelia Coretz of
Mercedes attended her sis-
ter as maid of honor. Brides-
maids were Nita Vega, 01-
mira Garcia, Yvonne Rome-
ros and Angie Lozano, all of
Mercedes. Flower girl was
Nora Lee T orres of Chica-
go, 111., niece of the bride-
groom. Bridesmaids wore
street length lime green
crepe empire dresses and
carried white mums with
lime green streamers.
Rene Garcia, attended his
brother as best man. Ushers
were John Perez, Danny
Martinez, Ricky Rivera and
Andy Salinas. Other atten-
dants were first witnesses,
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Soto;
lazo, Mr. and Mrs. Marga-
rito T orres; libro y rosario,
Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Garcia,
arras, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Noriega; cojines, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles McVey and

ed her sister as maid of

Mr. and Mrs. Guadalupe

Mr. and Mrs. Samuel San-
chez, libro y rosario; Miss
Graciela Sanchez of Wesla-
co, and Mr. and Mrs.Ernest
Martinez, arras; and Mr. and
Mrs. Tomas Dominguez, co-

Mrs. Garcia chose a two-
piece mint green crepe suit
for her son and daughter’s
wedding. Her corsage was of
white carnation. Mrs. Ale-
jandro wore a two-piece pink
lace suit.
Following the double cere-
mony a reception was held
at Vera’s Palladium. The
gift table was decorated with
a rice tree featuring pink
and green rice bags. Can-
delabras with pink and green
tapers also adorned the bri-
des* table.
The two couples took a
short wedding trip to Cor-
pus Christi.
Mr. and Mrs. Alejandro
will make their home in
Weslaco.
Mr. Alejandro attended
Weslaco schools and his new
bride attended Mercedes
schools.
Mr. Garcia is a graduate
of Mercedes high school and
will be a senior at Pan Ame-
rica College in September.
His bride is a graduate of
Mercedes high school.
Miss Ann Marie Carswell
of Corpus Christi became
the bride of Fred Brunken-
hoefer of Corpus Christi,
and formerly of Mercedes,
in a nuptial mass ceremony
at St. Patrick’s Catholic
Church, Corpus Christi,
Friday, May 26.
Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Cars-
well of Tyler are parents
of the bride and Mr. and
Mrs. W. F. Brunkenhoefer
of Corpus Christi, and for-
merly of Mercedes, are pa-
rents of the bridegroom.
The Rev. John P. Killeen
officiated.
Music was provided by the
Incarnate Word Academy
Choir.
The couple repeated their
vows before an altar flank-
ed by baskets of white gla-
dioli and white majestic da-
isies in fan shaped arrange-
ments.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a
formal gown of white French
Chantilly lace. The bodice
was styled with a Sabrina
pearls and crystals, and pe-
tal-point sleeves. A garland
of roses embraced the waist-
line providing back interest
to the bouffant skirt which
cascaded to a scalloped hem-
line and a chapel train. The
bride’s veil of illusion fell
from a crown of lace and
petal points edged with seed
pearls.
Mrs. J, M, Sims of Irving
was her sister’s Matron of
Honor. Bridesmaids were
Mrs. M.H. McNew of Hen-
derson sister of the bride,
Ruth Ann Brunkenhoefer, of
Corpus Christi, sister of the
groom, and DeLoris Duemke
of Corpus Christi.
Miss Juanita Martinez,
Weslaco, became the bride
of Ramon Sanchez, Mer-
Kenneth Brunkenhoeffer
was his brother’s best man.
Ushers were Sam Ander-
son of Tyler and Marvin El-
lis of Corpus Christi.
Groomsmen were Charles
Carswell, Portland, Mack
McNew, Henderson and Earl
Revett of Corpus Christi.
A reception followed the
ceremony at the Incarnate
Word Academy Cafeteria.
The bride’s table was cov-
ered with white organdy en-
circled with matching skirt.
The centerpiece was an ar-
rangement of white gladioli
and white majestic daisies
flanked by silver candlabra
with white tapers.
For her wedding trip to
cedes, in a double ring cere-
mony Saturday, at St. Joan
of Arc Catholic Church,
Acapulco and Mexico City
the bride chose a white lin-
en A-line dress with coat of
navy blue plaid. She wore
black patent accessories and
a white orchid corsage.
The couple will be at home
at 4600 Ocean Drive, Corpus
Christi.
The bride is a graduate
of Notre Dame College, St.
Louis, Mo. with a BA in
business education. She is
employed by Incarnate Word
Academy as a business tea-
cher.
The bridegroom is a gra-
duate of Pan American Col-
lege, Edinburg, with a B.A.
in mathematics. He is cur-
rently manager of Great
Western Finance Co. of Cor-
pus Christi.
Weslaco.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Jose Mar-
tinez, Weslaco, and the bri-
degroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Julio Sanchez of
Mercedes.
The Rev. Carlos Langa-
rica, OMI, officiated at the
ceremony.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a
floor-length gown of peau
de soie. The fitted bodice
held appliques of beads and
sequins. The gown was styl-
ed with fingertip sleeves and
detachable chapel train. The
shoulder-length veil of illu-
sion was held in place by a
pearl crown. She carried a
bouquet of large sweetheart
roses. The bride’s only jew-
elry was a silver cross.
Dolores Martinez of Wes-
laco attended her sister as
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Miss Irma Rico, Miss
Petra Rivera and Miss Au-
delia Villa, all of Weslaco.
The maid of honor wore a
floor-length gown, styled
similarly to that of the
bride’s. Bridesmaids wore
street - length mint green
dresses. They all carried
bouquets of silver white and
mint green sweetheart
roses.
Best man was Ruben Hue-
rta of Mercedes.
Other attendants were Mr.
and Mrs. Ramon Pena of
Mercedes, witnesses; Mr.
and Mrs. Eden Hinojosa,
Mercedes, cojines; Mr. and
Mrs. Agustin Cano, Wesla-
co, lazo; Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Villa, Rosary and book; Miss
Otila Garcia, bouquet; Miss
Odilia Ramirez, Album and
Miss Sylvia Garcia arraz.
For her daughter’s wed-
ding, Mrs. Martinez, chose
a golden and blue printed
dress with biege accessor-
ies. She wore a corsage of
golden silver sweetheart ro-
ses.
The bridegroom’s mother
wore a mint green dress
trimmed in lace with beige
accessories and white and
silver sweetheart roses.
A reception, given by all
the padrinos, followed the
ceremony at the Mercedes
Copa Cabana. The four-tier-
ed wedding cake was decora-
ted with green mint sugar-
spun roses and topped with
the traditional bride and
groom.
For the couple’s wedding
trip to Guadalajara and San
Juan de los Lagos, Mexico,
the bride chose a navy blue
two-piece suit with white
accessories.
The couple will be at home
in Mercedes June 5.
The bride is a graduate
of Weslaco high school and
is employed as a nurse at
Knapp Memorial Hospital,
Weslaco.
The bridegroom is a gra-
duate of Mercedes high
school and is self-employ-
ed as a television and radio
repairman.
