Stewardship
Committee
Session Set
A study session for all
home visitors of the Ste-
wardship committee of Our
Lady of Mercy Church will
be conducted Sunday, August
11, at 2 p.m., at Holy Fami-
ly Hall. The session will
be a follow-up of the ste-
wardship workshop directed
by Bishop Humberto Medie-
ros and Dr. Gilbert Stout in
San Juan Sunday, August 4.
“This program will give
a new spirit to the entire
Valley*’, said Bishop Medei-
ros.
The purpose of the study
session is to instruct home
visitors of ways to approach
families in this area and to
help them give better Chris-
tian service.
The first home visitation
will take place shortly to
enroll all Catholic children
in the Confraternity of
Christian Doctrine pro-
gram.
Young Christians
To See Slides
The Rev. Arthur Kaler,
O. M. I., pastor of Our
Lady of Mercy Church, will
present slides and a talk to
members of the Young
Christians at their regular
meeting, T uesday, August
13, at 7:30 p.m., at the Youth
Hall.
He will talk on his experi-
ences of prison life at
Huntsville where he served
as chaplain for a number of
years.
Anyone interested is wel-
come.
Son Is Born To
Don Beardens
Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Bearden of Mercedes are
announcing the birth of a
son, Mark Russell, born
August 1, at Knapp Memori-
al Methodist Hospital in
Weslaco. The Beardens
have another son, James
Michael. The maternal
grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Byron Jones of Merce-
des. The paternal grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Kermit Bearden of Browns-
ville.
Mrs. Bearden was the
former Miss Linda Kay Jo-
nes of Mercedes.
From Indiana
Mrs. Carlos Martinez and
her four children of Gary,
Ind., are spending a month’s
vacation in Mercedes with
her father, Asencion Sali-
nas, and her aunt, Mrs.
Delfina Alvarado.
Mrs. Martinez is the for-
mer Argentina Salinas.
Visitors Return
To California
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shake-
speare of West Covina, Cal.,
returned to their home af-
ter visiting her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Gene Cassidy and
brother Buddy of Elsa. They
drove to New Orleans, La.,
to visit her uncle, Bud Tis-
dell. They also visited her
two sisters and a brother-
in-law in Corpus Christi,
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ad-
kinson and daughter, Holly
and Miss Kathy Cassidy.
Mrs. Shakespeare is the
former Miss Debbie Cassi-
dy of Elsa.
