Naturally, not this many men are normally used to
align the front end of an automobile but are here to
show the different operations involved in this align-
ment.
At the right front wheel Harvey Shanks is checking the
degree of CASTER AND CAMBER and the inches of
TOE-IN or TOE-OUT. (Some vehicles also require a
check or KING PIN INCLINATION.)
On the left wheel James Crook is SETTING the CASTER
AND CAMBER to proper degree. Cleo Perry is in the
pit checking tie rod ends, idler arm and component
parts.
Steward Whitaker, parts and service manager, is tak-
ing a look at auxiliary toe-in, toe-out gauge, used when
this setting only is required.
Jerry Moore, in his yellow cap, is preparing to set the
CENTER POINT steering adjustment.
You will notice this complete set-up, which uses the
same principles as used at the Indianapolis Races, con-
sisting of checking the complete assembly, including
the WHEELS and not just the HUBS, as is sometimes
done with less expensive equipment. On the wall in the
background you see charts of official specifications for
oil year models and makes of cars and light trucks.
Looking on are Eston Turner and Edward Parker.
