time and progress, especially the
slaughter of beautiful trees along
the new highway routes.
Mr. Boyd pointed out the fact that
the lack of trees along many of the
new highways marred the beauty of
the roads. He also stated that since
US Highway 45 is to be built through
Freestone County in the near future,
this was the time for citizens to urge
the highway department to preserve
some of the natural beauty and at-
tractiveness of its roadways.
In a short business meeting, pre-
sided over by Mrs. Clay Burkhart,
further discussions of plans for im-
proving the courthouse grounds,
landscaping the city hall property
and the setting of three trees on the
hospital grounds, were held. Com-
mittees were urged to make efforts
to get these projects underway.
Rankin Gilpin had requested that
the club assist in rejuvenating, re-
pairing and planting the city park
and this was accepted. Valentines
